Since theres a lot of pieces that have to be removed, I'd take a few scraps and try the oven cleaner and/or the purple bath and see how the plastic reacts. If they dont work I'd do my best to dig out the heavy paint and then prime it. I've never seen one of these built, I'd like to see it once its done !

Those look like vac-formed parts to me and I'm pretty sure the original kit was all moulded plastic (it's a pretty rare kit so vac-forming the body parts wouldn't be a bad idea). Either way, if they are vac-formed I'd be inclined to cut a piece off first and test it with your preferred stripper just to make sure it doesn't melt!

Those are the original kit parts and they are indeed vac-u-formed styreen. I remember my poor nine year old fingers trying to cut them out with scissors, and failing horrably back when the kit was new. Like others have said, cut out some samples that aren't 'parts' and try a few different removers. I'm thinking Easy-off oven cleaner may do the trick. Just don't leave it on very long. Better to make several light passes, rincing in between, rather than one heavy one that eats everything, parts included.
