Glad to see someone helping you out, that's a very nice upgrade for that kit.

Has anybody out there ever figured out why MPC chose to get creative with this model rather than following Chuck Miller’s design? While the engine, body and interior are all very accurate to the full-sized car they not only changed the front wheels but the 1:1 car has a chromed Ford 8” rear end and a leaf spring front axle while the model has a independent rear end (Jag?) and a coilover front axle. Did they borrow the chassis and suspension from another “T” kit to save having to make new mold?

Did they borrow the chassis and suspension from another “T” kit to save having to make new mold? Yes, the chassis came from the Tognotti T back in 1963...This chassis was correct for this kit with the independent rear, and coil spring front axle, and small block chevy engine.
Next in 1968 MPC used that chassis on the Carl Casper Paddy Wagon...On this car, this chassis is completely wrong. The Casper PW used a "lifted" coil sprung front axle, and a chromed Ford 9 inch rear. The Engine in this kit is the same sbc block, and trans, but was crudely modified to look like a big block Ford.
Then again in '68 MPC used that same chassis on the Fire Truck...Once again the chassis is wrong on this one too. Like you said the real FT used a buggy sprung front & rear, and a Ford rear axle. It also went on to be 2 versions of the Outlaw. This was a way for kit manufacturers to get more bang for the buck with molds, and we as kids didn't really know much better.
When I built mine last year, I fixed the chassis by making a new one...With a little effort a "correct" Fire Truck can be done!!! And that's the rest of the story...

I believe the wire's came first on the 1:1 I have never seen any pics of the real one with laced wires, and I have tons of reference material.

Built mine bone box stock about 2 years ago. Was a little disappointed to learn only most of the way through building it just how many discrepancies there were between the model and the real deal. Yeah RatRod, your Fire Truck build really takes the cake man!

Thanks for the great answer RatRod and your build is beautiful - you obviously did your homework!
