i know a lot of you guys have built one of these, and i'm trying to restore one.(gotta keep up with the jones' LOL) i've been placing the completed engine in the frame, and it looks lke the engine sits high in the front and low in the rear. the tailshaft is resting on a nub at the rear of the cab,and the starter is resting on the frame. i'm thinking the headers are going to be at to severe an angle to place the fenders. since this was a glue bomb, i have no real reference points to go on. is it supposed to sit this way ?

i think that sounds right Don, when you look at a finished Wagon the engine and fenders do sit level while the chassis is raked. hope that helps

If it'll keep until tonight, I'll take a look at mine when I get home and maybe take a measurement or two, then post to the board.

Okay, here we go.
As vwcamperman said, the engine has a nose-up attitude relative to the frame.
The engine is supported by four mounts, two at the front of the block and two at the rear of the block. There is no transmission crossmember. The upper aft end of the transmission tailshaft housing bears against a short post on the bottom of the interior (I think this is your "nub"). The lower surface of the tailshaft housing at the aft end is flush with the bottom surface of the frame.
At the front, the lower edge of the timing chain cover is 6/32 inch above the lower surface of the frame, and the front of the oil pan is 5/32 aft of the aft surface of the front crossmember.

Thanks, Steve -the measurements will really be a big help. If I mess it up now, its all my fault !!
