Hey guys, I've been out of the hobby for quite some time due to some difficult personal struggles I've gone through. It's behind me now and I'm starting to get back into things I've missed out on for a while! Most of you I'm sure are aware the DW Glitter Bug was re-released last year, it was the first time that kit has ever been reissued. I just found out that Revell is following it up this month with a re-release of the Gomad Nomad, another kit that's never seen a reissue. The Glitter Bug was unfortunately molded in white instead of the original metalflake green, and apparently the Gomad will also be molded in white. Still, it's nice to see it repopped since used ones on eBay are so expensive that no one wants to build them after investing so much in the kit! Here's the Revell announcement page: www.revell.com/model-kits/cars/85-4310.html#.U5CukZ0o6fyI am still in contact with Dave's son Travis on a regular basis. He tries to keep me apprised of the new releases, but lately Revell hasn't been telling him much. He didn't know about the Glitter Bug reissue until I asked him about it. The Deal family does still receive compensation for the reissues, so it's nice to know Revell is treating them right

And suddenly ,yet more hours spent restoring a never to be reissued kit has become pointless. But heck, I'll still buy another one of these !

Bert, thanks for the welcome back Ira, I've been grabbing at least a dozen of each of the DW re-releases as they come out, I'm not sure why but a "case" just seemed like a good, round number, LOL! Don, man I hear you on that, I built my Gomad from a hammered built-up I paid way too much for on eBay. The whole body had been brush-painted dark blue with light blue insets. HIDEOUS!! I can't remember how many oven cleaner dips it took to get all that off but it was a lengthy process. And then hours of polishing and waxing just to get it back to the out-of-the-box color, LOL! Oh well, the next one will be a lot easier to build, and I won't feel so "guilty" doing a bunch of mod's to a re-release! Here's the one I restored:

By the way, just a bit of DW trivia, I think when they made the Gomad Nomad they modified the original 57 cHEVY chrome sprue mold. All the chrome parts are the same except for the hood scoop- the 57 cHEVY had a small scoop and the Gomad had a much larger one. All subsequent releases of the 57 cHEVY (the Modeler's Club issue, the Funster version and the recent re-release) all have the Gomad's bigger scoop. I'm convinced they did the same with the Lucky Pierre kit, they used the original molds to create the snap-together Incredible Flying Machine kit. I believe this is why they reissued the other 3 plane kits, but not Lucky Pierre- because the original molds no longer exist. The Bug Bomb underwent a similar transformation- the molds were modified to create the Li'l Herbie kit. When the Funster reissue came out, the body (mainly the new sunroof) and bumpers looked like Li'l Herbie, not the Bug Bomb. The good news is none of the other kits were ever released in a modified form, so chances are good that some day we'll see a reissue of the Stink Ray, Baja Humbug, Swine Hunt, etc. At least I hope so

I remember being disappointed when I was a kid at the engine size on the Zzzzz-28 and Stink Ray when I built them because they didn't look like the massive mills on the box art. Revell seemed to overcompensate on the Gomad though, LOL! The scoop is bigger than the box art, and overwhelms the little blower under it. Whenever I get around to building the reissue I'll do a motor swap on it. Will probably tuck the rear tires like the box art too.

If I didnt spend so much time restoring this one I'd probably have done a sccop swap , but at the time the kit was too rare to mess with !

I've always liked that restoration Don ! It's really first class . . . but that scoop is a little overpowering ! You did right by keeping it but I think I might swap the scoop out of the '57 Chevy when I build mine .

Hmmmm, I think a 1/25 bug catcher scoop and some Hugger orange paint, a la Eddie Hatch's '57 Nomad, would look good.

Sweet! It's a bummer they're molding them all in white plastic now, but it's better than not having them at all!
