I need some serious emotional support here. I have a cataract that has doubled in size since January. It has to be removed, and I don't mind saying now that I have a freelance job working with a major model kit company, I AM TERRIFIED! I'm completely freaking out about having my eye cut open. Without my eyes I am literally done for as a builder. I know someone out there has had this procedure and might be able to talk me down so to speak. I've finally attained a dream position in the modeling world and it all could disappear (literally!) in one day. HELP!

I understand you being terrified; I think anyone would be when it comes to surgeries, especially the eyes . All I can say is hang in there, you know if you don't get it taken care of now it will only get worse. They have done amazing things in the medical field in the last 30 years .My father was nearly 90 when he had cataract surgery and after the operations he no longer even had to wear glasses , so much of this stuff is routine to the doctors. I hope you have a speedy recovery and can get back at that job very soon

Trust the doctors, not the time to dick around. Go.

As one that has had cataract surgery on both eyes ( not at the same time ) I can tell it's not that bad , they done my right eye first as it was the worse of the two and a week and a half later the other eye . I have wore glasses all my life since I can remember and now I only need to wear reading glasses for close up vision but I purchased them at Dollar General , they are only 2.75 vision strength and any thing from a foot or so in front of me I can see perfectly without them ! So this should be a easy operation as I was a out patient both times and real short recovery time and I'm really glad I had this done !! Never knew how bad fussing around with glasses was till after this and now I no longer need them .

My wife is 47 and have to have both eyes done. She was amazed how much her vision improved after the surgery. Recovery time was short and she has not had any problems since the surgery. The doctors couldn't fix crazy, but they did fix her eyes Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

My (now) 89 year old mother had cataract surgery a couple of years ago on both eyes and it was done as in & out surgery. No problems at the time and things have been fine since. Ask around when choosing your doctor there are some very good ones out there and some only, so good. In my mother's case she had an optometrist she trusted, he gave her advice, she asked around and his advice was good.

Sadly, (and this is the root of my angst!) I am disabled. Thus, I have to go to the doctor they tell me to.

Everyone I know over here in the UK who have had this procedure have been amazed at the results, & all had it carried out by National Health doctors so they couldn't choose either, but it transformed their lives. Easy to say "don't worry about it", but please try not to.

Then it is fulfilling it's purpose. I use that as an avatar because being a Gemini, Dr. Jeckyl and Mr. Hyde represent my general state of mind... perfectly. I guess the short answer would be "no".

It never hurts to ask. Of course... you never know, I might find something even creepier for my avatar...

The movie was called " jekyll and hyde...together again ' It was bugging me too, I remember seeing it years ago. It took me a while to find it ! '

Don is quite correct. "Jeckyl and Hyde Together Again" starred Mark Blankfield (Feld?). It was a takeoff on his pharmacist character from the short lived "Fridays". He was also Blinkin, Robin Hood's loyal manservant from "Men in Tights". Mark is now a film professor at UCLA.

Well this should give you all a giggle. Whatever they used on me before surgery, had me looped! I remember absolutely nothing of the operation, don't even recall who was in the room! This is very disconcerting for me, since I can remember things all the way back to the day my mother picked me up at the adoption agency in 1967. I was two years and four months old. I don't like not remembering something. This is why I don't ever get blackout drunk. According to the staff who were initially present, more staff were 'invited' to the room, since I apparently did eleven minutes of standup, from flat on my back. At one point I asked if anyone had a traffic cone, and dubbed the assisting nurse "Cashmere". According to my driver (mother), I had a ten minute conversation on my phone on the way home and whoever it was I kept reassuring them "I will find it!" As one could guess, all this would come as very disconcerting, to find out the next day. I certainly hope they take a Vegas approach to the op room, and what's said in the O.R., stays in the O.R.! The best part of the whole situation is that now half my television looks freakin fantastic! I swear it's like one of those crappy TV commercials where they tell you how much better their picture is compared to ours, all while we watch on our, supposedly crappy, TV! So at today's followup, I was greeted in the office to a round of applause I never saw coming. My paranoid self is now telling me there's a video starring me, going around this office.. possibly elsewhere. Each person eventually came to talk to me and tell me what a pleasure I was to operate on. It was through each of these personal contacts throughout the visit, that helped me put together what had gone on. The other half of the downside is now the left half of my television looks SO good, I closed my left eye a few seconds to see if the right eye was to blame. Yes it was. Looking through my right eye, which had been my good eye all through this ordeal, was like looking through a filthy screen! I asked about this and doc said they would take care of that eye as soon as this one fully heals. I asked if I could make a special request for the second operation and he said yes. I requested that next time I come in I will be completely clean shaven, would they please put a piece of duct tape over my mouth? Just before they hit the gas, you know? His exact words were "Not a chance! I have people volunteering for that op!" P.S. I look quite a bit like my avatar about now. At least around the eyes. I was going to link a clip from the movie here... but I can find one that isn't inappropriate.

You had me in stitches - what a great writeup of what you went through! Congratulations on the results (of the surgery and of the anesthetic)! :-)
If I were you, I would be enjoying the new-found fame. If I ware in your place, whether I remember it or not, I would enjoy the fact that I made people laugh. Even if someone did make a video of your antics (which being professional medical personnel they probably didn't do), unless you were dancing on your head with your schlong hanging out, I wouldn't worry about it. Sounds like you were a hoot!

Thank you for your kind words. As you can see, I no longer need the bold typeface. I'm going in next week to get my right eye measured and probably another week for the operation. I think I'll ask someone with a camera phone if they can record it. It sounds like I had a blast... wish I had been there for it!

Okay, so I had my second eye surgery yesterday. Nothing as amusing to report this time, they said I slept through it! However, today at my follow up I read 20/30 with my new peeper and it's getting better as the day wears on. I still might need some readers for up close, but it sure felt good to read a highway sign from three tenths of a mile away! So I did take a look at my first avatar... then the one I changed it to for Bert... NOW I see what you're talking about!

Or maybe three "avatars in rotation"?
Good to hear the OP went well, by the way.
