As the summer winds down, as usual, I find myself getting ready to build models again. I love that when I get burned out by the end of winter they are still there waiting when I return. Some of my stuff has been stalled for over a decade... I find that in time the solutions to areas I am stuck on arrive right when they need to.... Here's a few of what I was tinkering with last season, I hope you guys dig it, and if you have anything on the bench, throw it up for inspiration...
I've had this Garbage truck since before my son was born, I know.... he's 14. LOL.. I pull it out every couple of years and tinker with it. The last round I lowered it down over a set of slot mags from a Fast Buck, but I came to my senses and raised it back up last winter.
Old School... a twin engined Gasser Bus inspired by a dream that I had one night about a gasser bus. I bought the body, a Japanese kit, for this when I lived in Bakersfield, and that was probably 12 years ago? I had to shorten the body behind the rear axle, and waited until my skills were up to par... the chassis has been another obstacle, and after several mockups with van and truck frames, I am now just building my own. Purely by accident I ran across this issue of Cartoons with a race bus... Clearly it has all been thought of before.
The Showboat lives... I am on my second body for this... the first was a 1955-issue glue bomb bought at an NNL... I mocked it up and added the Mysterion coves and stuff, and then found another MIB kit, and switched all my parts over to the fresh body. I get burned out on it, and stop... hit it again with fresh eyes and get a little further. The construction and engineering in the driver's cabin keeps getting better each time, and I've hinged the top roof, or "hood"... I dig it.
The one car I am going to pull out and work on first is the Fast Bath... I've solved several problems and it's on my mind these days. I am looking forward to it.
A hundred years ago I asked for some American graffiti steelies, and I believe it was Dave Van who sent them to me... I promise they went to good use. LOL. This thing will live one day.
The Fastest Car in the Valley. The AMT Double Dragster has been a huge help in realizing this one. It was originally built from ancient glue bomb scraps.
Of course I will straight axle anything... these guys may or may not ever get finished out, but the Gremlin is close to being ready for paint work.
and I just don't think the world is ready for this one yet:
