One of my proudest possessions is an award from a Rat Fink Reunion many years ago where George was judging the model show. He really "got" models and chatted to me about my Rat Fink inspired diorama with a sort of enthusiasm and knowledge that really surprised (and pleased) me.
Not everyone's favourite character but the world's a slightly less shiny place without him.

Harley was that the same one in 2004 where I got an award for my Mother Trucker from him? It was the 5th Annual Rat Fink Reunion?

Sorry to hear about his passing , he was an inspiration to thousands of model builders and car guys everywhere. That being said, its really amazing that some of these customizers have such long lives. All those early years in small garages with poor ventilation combined with welding fumes ,Bondo dust , Lacquer paint and thinners, working with fiberglass resin, not mention the cigarettes most people smoked in the "old" days must have had an impact on them health wise .

You'd think the amount of lead alone in the early days would've been hazardous. I will say that Gene Winfield is an ox, and proud of his physical condition. He always says how fortunate he was to not taken up drinking or smoking, and watched a lot of his friends go downhill quickly as the years stacked up. Hard work, desert living, mental projects to keep his focus, and a healthy lifestyle are his secrets... He'll work circles around guys half his age.

Barris was a true legend who educated all builders of early era to take photos of Kustoms and building progress. He had a vision and talent to entertain people around world. Thank you George for all those great memories !
