Don Culley's Dragon Wagon got me thinking... There was a time when the holy grails were not re-issued and we were all trying to locate parts and pieces to put glue bombs back together. I think the thrill was in the hunt, and it was a labor of love and pride to actually finish a Rommel's Rod or TJ Taxi. I think one of the most sought-after parts was the dragon from the Dragon Wagon, and I remember guys scratch-building missing body parts. With the eBay wars between collectors raging to staggering prices, the glue bombs were also in high demand. Many sellers who listed glue-stained hulks for a few dollars were bewildered when they hit nearly $100. I think we've been very lucky with the re-issues, but it also removed some of the hunting... is there anything rare or not re-issued you guys are working on, and what parts would help you complete it? I still keep an eye out for a stray Groovy Grader or a Rattler... one day... Any rare kits you'd love to stumble across for kit bashing?

I always love finding a Dog Catcher, Pink Panther or a Chitty Bang Bang. Some I covet but can never find are the Mod Squad Woody and the Banana Splits buggy.

I'm slowly restoring a Horn Toad ; its another gluebomb. The destroyed parts are the rear and the glass. I have a rear diff in the works , I still need a windshield though . I doubt anyone has one of those lying around ! LOL
I still cant believe what those old kits went for, and it wasn't that long ago. The bidding was crazy when one of the grail kits came up. I paid over $50.00 for a box lot of really broken up gluebombs on Ebay that included the Dragon Wagon and the Tijuana Taxi, and at the time that was a bargain - the same junk lot wouldn't even get a bid today !

I remember paying $60 for the hull of my TJ Taxi... I mean just the outer shell, rear seat, and rear trunk box. I think it came with a grille and some other small parts, but the frame was snapped off and it was a gluey mess... no suspension or wheels. I had around $100 in my Rommel's Rail, also. It was built from one and a half hulls, one that had been "war damaged" with a lighter and the rear chunk had been drilled with a big drill bit right in the rear panel.

A lot of us paid some big dollars for junk, but at the time it was our only choice if we wanted a kit. A lot of guys here donated /sold// traded parts to me to get my Dragon Wagon done ,and some of those parts needed work ! Even my Dragon needed work; two of his teeth were missing. I felt like the king of the world when I found a new Dragon Wagon windshield and a partial chrome tree in a junk box on Ebay to help with my restoration. . I agree that the "thrill of the chase" is mostly gone now when it comes to showrods, but we are lucky that the kit companies are still around. It wasn't long ago that they were about extinct !

Well, not exactly working on...but I do have "some parts" for the Li'l roamin chariot, and would love to get hold of a fresh MIB for a descent amount of $$$ LOL!
I'm planning on building my own rod inspired by Li'l roamin chariot using mainly the stock body and do the rest from scratch !
I also hope to get hold of a KOO KOO Car in the future!

Of course I remember the crazy Showrod kit prices, my wallet is still scarred. The Rommel's Rod,Dragon Wagon, etc. hit a bunch of us hard. Of course they re-issued them to add to the pain. Anyway, I have started a restoration on a TD Leap Hog and I pulled a Big Rig Rod down from the stash. I'll try and take some pics once I'm full speed on them. I am finishing up on another Gridiron Grabber (son's high school team colors) and a rendition of his (my boy's) 2008 Charger.

Also not "working on" here, but I have some of the rarer Tom Daniel models that are future resto projects which I am still keeping an eye out for a few parts. Sometimes other parts can be substituted, but there are some pieces where you just need the actual part.

I`m trying to finish Exner designed Renwal Mercer Cobra, Packard and MPC Stroker McGurk Ghost Of America, but I`m the slowest or Laziest builder on Earth...All these kits were started by previous builder so it was easy desicion to start building them although these are rare kits. Thankfully Round2 does a great job bringing some rare stuff available nowadays !

Well, I have a Lil Roamin Chariot, that I will start soon.... I am missing one bit though, the rear (vertical) part of one of the exhausts. So if any of you guys have one....? I remember the fun finding the very rare glue bombs, and restoring them.... I have an original Tijuana Taxi (restored before reissue), One Arm Bandit (restored), Rattler (restored), Bugaboo (restored before reissue), and Royal Rail (restored before reissue). I also have an original Depth Charger that was allmost restored when the reissue hit the shelves. That kind of killed the drive, finishing my original one. Man, I paid BIG bugs for that Then there is the lil chariot, aand I guess I have to finish it before it will be reissued.... Oh, and I have an original Dog Catcher glue bomb lying around waiting for restoring... Well, guess I might as well buy a new one now....
