As many of you know, every couple of years our website founder Dave Rasmussen will buy a car from far away and drive it home, and write a cool blog.
This time it's a '58 Chevy like the one his family had when he was a kid... in the same color even. Here's a look at it:
He picked it up in Georgia, and is driving it home to Wisconsin, (without AC!) swinging through my area along the way. Since he used to live near Memphis, he has a few friends here to visit, as well as a trusted shop that will be putting their eyes and tools on it on Monday. He picked up long-time friend, noted photographer, respected Memphis hot rodding historian and fellow Coffin Corner member Louis Kimery www.louiskimery.com/ and swung by my house. I had invited fellow Coffin Corner member Bert Wallace up from his home base two-hours south of me for the occasion. I've been lucky to meet a lot of guys on here in person, and after years of talking to Bert, it was awesome to finally meet him.
Bert and I got to visit a while before Dave and Louis arrived, and when they did we all busied ourselves working on the '58. Dave's car had a scant 80 miles on the "refurbish" and the shakedown cruise items were popping up. Here's a shot of the group:
Left to right: Myself, Dave, Bert, and Louis.
In honor of the group's arrival I spread out all of my showrod builds on a table. I don't think I've ever had all of them in one spot before:
A good time was had by all... we sorted out some problems on the '58 and speculated on the others. We talked show rods, we talked life, and it re-affirmed my belief that the Coffin Corner has the best members.
Below is the link to Dave's blog. Scroll down to start at the beginning and see the how and why, and then follow along over the next couple of days and see if he makes it home under the power of the tri-carbed 348 or the diesel power of a wrecker. It's entertaining, and worth the read.
Behold! The 58 Year Pilgrimage!
