I didn't participate, but I remember watching the Name Game contest - it was AMAZING. This place was BUZZING! For anyone who didn't see it, everyone came up with a showrod name, sent it to someone (I forget who - Tim Nolan maybe?) and then everyone participating got a randomly-chosen different name back as the theme of their build. It was SUCH a cool idea! I was just learning about the wonderful world of showrods then and I read every new post on this place every single day.
It would be cool to run that contest again! I remember it had some issues, but I'd LOVE a second chance at getting involved in a big group build on the 'Corner if there were to be a 10th Anniversary Name Game Build Off or something!

I do remember that contest ! I didn't enter because of the quality builds the guys put out - and there was some wild ideas built ! Its hard to believe I've been here 11 years already , where has the time gone ? LOL

I don't remember the Name Game ever coming to completion. I seem to remember that Decal Dan had hardware and life problems and disappeared. The only contest I have from 2007 is the OSC (Open Showrod Challenge)

Some great pics in there, thanks for the link Paul! Maybe the Name Game thing would work well if it didn't require someone to actually make decals for everyone - I bet that was labor intensive for Dan. We could still do builds without needing a one off set of custom decals I'm sure. I'd LOVE to see this contest rolled out again if there were any takers. I've regretted not participating for a decade now  |

That would be fun....
Im kinda struggling in life right now, so I dont get too much built, but I would absolutely be willing to enter, and give it a shot.
We could make it like the old name game, except for the decals. You can still build a great theme show rod, even though it dont have decals on it... Or if we want, we can get the decals done ourselves....

I don't know what the proper etiquette is for running a contest here, but I'd totally help organise it if noone else wanted to. I'd maybe even try find a cool prize to put up! |

We could try. however, contest participation has been waaaaayyyy down in the last few. Folks just like to lurk. We used to be cool... LOL.
Admittedly my own "building season" is in the winter months. I don't build anything in the warmer months with my gardening and car projects. but if you guys had enough interest and wanted to knock something together, I'm always for it.

Might be a good one to run just after summer, with a month or so for people to enter (so we can collate the names and get as many people on board as possible). I'm excited, it'd be SO COOL to have a contest to have a little buzz around!

I'm still really excited about the idea of this contest - with the admin's permission I'm happy to orchestrate (unless somoene else wants to), and I'll find at least one kit to put up as a prize. We could maybe have a public vote at the end and give somes stuff away?
I was thinking of a timeline something like this: from Sept 1st we'll open the doors for entries, and everyone interested in entering will have a couple of weeks to think of a name (or names) and submit it. After the two weeks are done I'll somehow shuffle the names up (maybe draw them out of a hat and do a youtube video of it so people can see) and send them out to everyone so they can get building. Then maybe run the contest through until Christmas or year's end. Any thoughts anyone?
Anyone who had a name from before or really wants to get involved but wants to build something with their own name that they thought of can totally do that too - but the real fun is seeing what name you get! But really it's all about participation - let's get this place ROCKING. Make the Coffin Corner great again!

A great idea. What happens if you get a name of a kit you do not have. One problem is that all the kits are not available where I live.
So can I make up a name for a kit I do have?

Hey John! Based on the last Name Game, or from what I can figure out, the names weren't so specific that you would NEED a particular kit to build any of them - they'd be names that could fit a variety of themes. There were names like 'Pizza Express' and 'Mad Hatter' and 'The Coffin Cruiser' and so on. Plenty of inspiration to get you kickstarted, but not so limiting that you need something in particular to build them ("Bonneville Style T with an Ardun" or something).
In the interests of getting people to participate I'm sure if someone had a particular idea for a name that they wanted to build themselves then they should totally go for it...but I think the really fun thing about this contest is not knowing what name you'll get!

I wasn't even planning to start taking entries until the 1st of Sept but I'm SO pleased that we've got some interest in this already.
