Or rather... Which one was your first? Carmodel that is Do you remember which model car kit was the first one you built? I started about 42-43 years ago building WWII planes, but when I picked up my first Monogram car kit, the planes was put aside. It really started my interest for building model car kits. My first one was this one, and its still one of my favorites. I just love those old Monogram 1/24 kits: I dont have it anymore, but on this picture from July 1978, you can see it on the top shelf... Well, lets see your first one

It was this one trashy brunette chick...wait, sorry, never mind. Wrong question I remember that even though I was SUPER into cars when I was a little kid the first kit I built was a birthday gift of a Stealth bomber. It was fairly small scale, it came with that type of glue that comes in a bottle with a needle and it's SUPER thick, so predictably I made a good mess with that. I remember building it on newspaper on the table in the kitchen and all the parts sticking to the newspaper when they were drying cos I used too much glue. I was probably 6 or 7 maybe? I remember brush painting it with flat black enamel, as per the directions, and it was just an unholy mess - and the enamel paint took forever to dry so it ended up with a load of fingerprints in it as young-me kept poking at it to see if it was dry yet. I also remember 'customising' Hot Wheels cars by brushpainting them (didn't work out too good) and then the first car kit I tried building was a Beer Wagon. That turned into a gluey mess too, and I guess my Mom threw that one away at some point. I bought another Beer Wagon (actually, 3) a few years ago and still haven't finished one but it got me hooked on showrods...and here I am!

This was it for me... my grandparents bought it for my birthday party, as they knew 57 Chevys were my favorite car. I had to have been 8 or so.. it was a glue kit and my mom was concerned because it said for 10 and up and I remember not being "old enough"... but man I tore into that thing and mag wheels! and dual quads! and bucket seats! and headers! and a roll bar!.... man I was hooked. I had that thing built by the end of the evening, glue smeared everywhere... I used waaay too much and it was a mess. I got the baby blue '55 snap together next, but it just wasn't nearly as "cool" as the '57. At one point I had 100 models assembled at one time, not counting the boxes of junkyard stuff... I can tell the manufacture of a part by looking at the plastic. LOL.. and I can usually tell you what kit a part is from... But this '57 holds a soft spot in my heart. I've bought another as an adult, but didn't build it right. I need to try again.

This one was given to me as a X-mas present by my father; this got me going, before that; I was happy with Corgi cars

Back in the early 70s, every corner drug store had a 'model kit' section. I remember as a kid being fascinated with the Tom Daniel designs (I had no idea they were all designed by the same guy, or who Tom Daniel even was). I think they were about $5 back then, so I would have to save my allowance for a couple of moths to get one! I think my first was T'rantula and I was so in love with it (still am). Then Red Baron, Cherry Bomb, Ice 'T'. Funny thing is, I'm pretty sure I never actually finished any of them. As an 8 year old kid, I didn't have the patience. Soon after, I discovered rock-n-roll and forgot all about models for about 40 years. A couple of years ago I stumbled on some Tom Daniel kits on Ebay (Wow, I remember those!) The first one I got? T'rantula, of course! Now I'm so hooked I need therapy!

I was a fan of Tri Chevies so Bad Medicine was my first. I think it is still at Mums place. My second was a mid 60s Chevy but I always wanted a Boothill Express but I never got one as a kid. Yep I have 2 now. Moved away from model building but came back as an adult and always looked for the show rods. And how excited was I when Show Rods started to get re issued.

I cant remember exactly which car kit was my first, but it was either the Rommel's rod or the Amazing moon mixer .I know the mixer turned out to be a complete wad of glue , maybe because of the little chrome pieces Revell was known for . The Rommel's Rod has survived all these years in my parents basement; I stuck it up in the rafters as a kid to save it from being thrown out by my dad . Its not great, but it has a lot of sentimental value . I then built a Johan Hornet funny car and a 1971 Monte Carlo (the first car I used spray paint on) I sure would love to get my hands on those kits again!

Great question! I was around 7 or 8yrs old. The first kit was the Aurora Batman, the one where he's swinging from a tree about to throw his bat-a-rang. My dad helped me build it. -He's still here today, at 94!- That was quickly followed by the Batmobile, Star Trek Enterprise, and the Monogram Lunar Module (in no particular order). Then, mom brought home a Pie Wagon. That began my fascination with all things showrod, rat fink, Hot Wheels, Odd Rods, Hot Rod Cartoons, drag racing (Snake & Mongoose!), & American muscle cars. We had a house fire in 1972 that took my models to the great beyond, but I made a vow that I would again, one day, own and build all those kits. I have amassed most, but some remain unobtainable at this time. However, when I retire...

Built when I was 9 or 10 , it has a sloppy metallic green and copper paint "camo" job done on it and its now missing pieces, but its a survivor and has been in my dads basement for about 47 years .
