Is there a way to find whether a model without box is an original or re-issue? Numbers to the Cherry bomb rod are marked into the underside of the body. Can they be traced? Thanks for help.

I wouldn’t think that the info on the body itself (usually the copyright info and the year the car was tooled originally) would probably be much help as, generally, they wouldn’t change from issue to issue.
I bet something like the particular shade of red (or whatever) color the kit was moulded in might give some hints though, especially if someone on here has one to compare to

Like Kabdriver said ,the color is one possibility - once the mold is made, the dates generally aren't modified . For instance, the Weird-o's kits from Hawk were made in the early 60's , and reissued in the late 80's by Testors. When they were reissued again a few years back they still say Hawk models and have 1963 dates on them. As for the Cherry Bomb , the most obvious difference in the kits is the glass - the early ones were green , later issues had grey tint or clear .

I wondered if there might be something with the glass too, yeah! I couldn’t remember if I was remembering that right though. Thanks for confirming Don!! 👍🏻

How nice is the chrome? Old plated parts have a dullish patina.. the older Cherry Bomb chrome usually wears through the higher edges. Any decals? How old does it look?

You can sometimes find a production-year marked on the back of the decal sheet.

There is usually a print date on the directions. Paul
