Just wanted to make this post as kind of a return hello and there’s a few things I would like to share as I have been catching up and checking out what’s been going on.
I’m saddened In seeing passing of some members. Paul was a really great guy and did so much for this place. I’ve been looking back on past post and was just thinking about him sending post off to the cornfield when they would get a little out of hand.
My Mom recently passed away this last month and I’ve been faced with the realization about things being packed away and left behind. Making me think about when we pass on that we leave so much behind. Many things we never really get to enjoy because life either gets in the way, we loose interest or in my case just being a collector and having so much that it’s just packed away or stored because of limited space. I know when I’ve been looking for things in the past I ended up finding things I’ve forgot I even own. Being forced with going through my Moms estate and deciding what I want to keep and what needs to be sold I’ve decided that it would be a good time to go through my own collection of vintage toys and collectibles that I have stored away. Something I inherited from my mom was the love for vintage items and collectibles as she was an Antique dealer, restoring vintage furniture always buying selling and trading. I pretty much grew up in a Antique store in Louisville Ky I even had my own room in the back with nothing but toys and if I was not there I was with her at estate sales flea markets or yard sales on the weekends. I had a great childhood to say the least. I currently have so much that I seriously do not think I could ever display it all. I realized what’s the use in having so much that you can’t have it out and enjoy it?
Since I’ll be moving sometime this year into her house after a remodel I’m going to pull out what I truly enjoy and sell off many other aspects of my collection. As I’ve been going through crates of my own stuff I came across some of my models I have stored. I realized how much I miss building and restoring vintage models, it reminded me that this place was a big part of my life when I was into modeling the most. It was after I found out I had cancer that I decided to get into back into my modeling. During that period of my life having surgery and a year of chemo I was home bound and didn’t go out for several years after that. This place was really good therapy for me. A place I could go to and not have to leave my home while going through all of that. It was a chance to have friends and associate with other like minded people while sharing a hobby that was good and wholesome plus keeping my mind busy and it really kept me from being so depressed. I had several friends here some I even met later on in person.
So with all that being said I just wanted to say I’m really glad to see the that this place is still here for people to enjoy and for people like me to come back to when we feel the urge to get back into modeling or just a visit.
My plan is to remodel the house and have a larger toy/hobby room with a dedicated area just for building models. I’ve pulled out some old projects and restorations that need some attention so I’ll do my best to do some posting and share.
Sorry to have been long winded I just wanted to share and express my thoughts and gratitude towards this place and it's members.
