Ok after you build all these great models. . .
What do you do with them?
Sell them?
Display them?
And how do you display them? What do you use?
I just finished up two this weekend. . and I have an old China buffet top with three glass shelves. . and well I use that and tried to keep the dust out. DUST! A killer to control.
I would love to make a more permanent set-up. I have a limited area in the basement that I was going to try to use?
Any ideas or pictures would be great!

M-80'S !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! oh, wait...that weas 35 years ago... Actually, I buy those clear amt display cases and stack them up on an old bookshelf. I currently have about 75 built kits, some have been in their cases for more than twenty years and still look great ( well, dust free, anyway.) I've looked at getting display cases, but theres generally big gaps between the doors and jams, so dust gets in anyway.

Over the years, I have purchased several display cases, some new, and some older ones that need some refurbishing. Having a home with enough room is the hard part!!! Since I'm in the market for a new home right know, that is the biggest thing I'm looking for.....A huge display room!!! So to answer your question, yes, I try to display my work, and what I've collected in the last 40+ years!! I have sold some (to many), but when someone offers the right sum, it's hard to turn down at times...

I do have two of the clear acrylic 24 car shelving units that mount to the wall and have the clear front doors so your models stay dust free. I can put 48 models in there and did at one time when I built all the petty cars through the years. Problem with that shelving unit is that your model has to be no bigger that a normal model car(as in a factory 1:1 showroom car) any longer or higher and it won't fit......pretty much eliminates any show rods!!!
For that reason alone, rather than see a model die a slow miserable death by dust, getting knocked around or broken.............they get sold!
As long as I photo it, and put it in my website I don't really miss it. about the only time it comes back to haunt me is when there is a model show and I do not have a model to show, or the ones I have sold are better than the one I took to the show!!!! ;D ;D ;D

I have a lot in glass dispaly cabinets both at home, and in my lab at my office. I have all of my Tom Daniel kits inside of plastic display boxes inside the cabinet. (2 barriers are better than 1!)
My lab cabinets are old floor style displays, with my workbenches built on top with formica.
At home, I have an old counter display from the 5o's, as well as a couple of wood/plexi units a freind made for me about 15 years ago. (These gather more dust) I just take everything out maybe once a year, blow them off (computer duster works great), wipe them down along with all of the shelves, and all set!
I have recently thought about selling off some older stuff I'm not atached to, but not sure yet.....

I put them on a shelf and keep on building, move them around a lot to make room for the newer ones until there's no room left and i have to put the older ones in a box and store them in the basement. You see it's a circle the newer ones become the older ones after all it's just plastic right!!!!!

Thanks guys. . .
I like Lance's case. . .that is nice and enclosed. .and I love the matchbox you have in there.
And Bill . . . It is cool you made them they look real nice . . . I have seen that done in a restaurant as a room divider and there was plexi-glass on both sides. . . and the shelves were 1"X6" that is what I was thinking. . . Man you have alot built . . they look good. . .but I'm straining my eyes to see what they are. . . with the cat. . . . pick him up by the scruff and hold his head under the faucet for 2 seconds every time he goes near the cases . . . and he will stay clear from your models. Please tell me you Photo-shopped his eyes. . . it does look a little evil.
Tim I have seen your cases. . and those are nice too. . . did you build them? (behind the bar)
And I agree with you Fred. . . those Plexi display cases are real nice and orderly. . . but they don't fit most showrods. . and the customs I build.. . always seem to be a little bigger than normal.
Dean thanks for the builds you gave me. . very cool! I told you you would be building again. . . hehehe you have too wild of an imagination NOT to build! I have one of your first customs. . .it is very rough. . . you have come a long long way on improving your builds. .. keep it up!
Don I was thinking of the M80's too. . . . hehehe I have an idea fro a build using them. . . hehehe but I have a ton of other stalled ideas first.
Rat Rod. . . I agree it is the room to put it. . . I was given a room in the basement. . and I have to make it all fit in there. . . . and well I keep cramming but I would like to rework the room so my builds are in there too! And As I build. . . a place to display them. . . .
My ideal think is a hot dog stand with a model car theme. . . all I need is the backer. . .and I'll do the work. And I have talked to Chuck D about my ideas. . .. . .and the 1/4 mile cement barricaded exit with a sign that says. . . "DO NOT DRAG RACE. . . we are not responsible for any damage or injury" . . . hehehe I love the box art as much and sometimes better than the kit. . .so I would want the boxes displayed too. . . . well. . . .thanks for the input!

Wow, Tim ! You have a collection that anyone here would love to have . Those HO trains brought back some memories for me - The bicentennial engine was one I saved up and bought, and the popsicle car was one of my favorites. Man, I remember I saved for quite a while to get that train set . maybe someday my son will get into trains and I'll dig out the remains of my stuff.

I had a pretty big HO train set up in the basement when I was younger. I saved up for the Santa Fe engine... I'd still like to make a show rod out of on of those. ;D

Constellations! Geez! That was driving me nuts! LOL! Those are desktop airline promo's, that a friend of mine found last year in the attic of a 101 yr. old local hotel that was about to be torn down. They were an inch think with bug crap and filth, but I cleaned them up and put them in there. Unfortunately he only found one stand and support. They are in pretty good condition otherwise. There's also an original Slinky toy in the box (also in that cabinet) in mint condition. (big call for those....LOL) He also found an old gas powered boat in the old garage that was falling down, made by Scientific Models back in the 50's. I recently sold that piece.
The trains are my sons. His bedroom was all trains the first 8 or so yrs. of his life, now it's all surfing and paintball stuff. We still enjoy setting them up at Christmas. I love the Santa Fe stuff. I got to see them in action on my trips out West a few years back! I have them in HO and also in the bigger scale Lionel. Almost everything in that cabinet I traded eyeglass work or eBay work for to local collectors I am friends with!

Now that's what I'm looking for, A good sized show room!! I have amassed a huge collection over the last 40+ years, and now it occupies a 36' X 60' area, floor to ceiling, with everything packed in boxes.... This is why my wife and I are hunting for that perfect home, and it's really awesome that she understands how important it is to me to finally be able to display it all. Tim, you have a great collection bud!!! Last year I finally got to see a good friends collection up close & personal, he converted a big two car garage into a show room, with a pool table in the middle. All four walls are lined with kits, built up's, and all kinds of model stuff. He also has several other rooms full of models, heck he even has shelves in his bed room full of kits!!! Yes, he is single....lucky bastard.... This is all I'm allowed in the Apt....
