What a great day at BilletProof in Ocala Florida! Such a nice change from the usual boring car shows! Just the right amount of people, great cars, vendors, music and the bar-b-q was delicious!!!! Over 500 cars showed, and what a killer selection of kool stuff! I got to hang with Sonny DePalma all day, met up with my Uncle and cruised the show. Sonny's stuff is more incredible in person than any photo can ever show! His artwork is only slightly larger than his kind personality. He spent a busy day signing posters and talking to line after line of fans. I watched him shake hands and thank EVERY person who stopped by all day long. The model contest was kind of a bust, so we made our own model show and put our stuff out on his table. People loved the models, and Sonny kept telling everyone how important it was to keep the modeling hobby alive! It was great! Here's a few shots, and you can click on the link to see over 100 photos I shot! One for Big John....... Familiar paint for Chuck! The only C-Cab there.... Look at the seats..... s92.photobucket.com/albums/l35/Finktim/BILLETPROOF%202008/?start=all

man Tim that looks like a blast! That Crosley is wicked. I'm recovering an interior for a friend's Crosley as we speak. There isn't much to them, that's for sure. Shopping Cart seat, what a riot...ha ha! Great stuff Tim. Thanks for sharing.

Great picts, I love those large scale models. I wish I could afford to build them. Then trying to find a place to display them. I guess one could have worse troubles LOL. Dwayne

It was a great time. I loved that VW pickup with the bobber in the back! There were a ton of really ROTTEN Volks of all kinds! LOL. They don't hold up well down here!
My favorite car was the flaked green sedan, but there was a really awesome 29 T that I didnt get a pic of that I could just kick myself! My Uncle took some shots, hopefully I'll get them from him. It was a drag/street car that was just so nicely done! The sedan looked exactly like Chucks Green Hornet, with perfect paint. It was done really well, with beautiful upholstery to boot! Supposedly, they said they'd turn away any cars with ANY billet on them at all, so I didn't take my Duece. But, there were several cars with billet parts sittin' in there. Next year, I'm takin' it. I am going to get one of those Caddy dual intake air cleaners. I've been wanting one for a while to replace the big Holley billet dual intake I've got. I did see a couple of green flaked steering wheels at the show, gotta' find one! All in all, a great day for all I think! You should have heard that orange Crosley! What a riot. It was majorly LOUD!!!! Must be crazy to drive with that front end!

Great pics Tim...sounds like you had a good time. Yeah...I was wondering about if you were takin' the Duece...but on their web site..your right...they did say they would turn away any car(with no refund) if it had any billet on it. I suppose being their 1st year in the area...they were lax. Make sure they don't tighten the rules next year and you end up getting squeezed out...they limit it to 500.
So what about the model show...were there any other than Sonny's and yours? Maybe they should make it a contest.

I was reading and posting on the HAMB, and apparently they did turn a shitload of cars away, and had a few run-ins with the usual assholes that you find at car shows often. LOL. Yeh, next year I'm takin' it wether it sits in there or out int he spectator parking.
The model thing was a contest, although there weren't more than maybe 30 items on the table, and most not so good. No showrods, it was all about hot rods and drag cars, but thats good. It was kind of uncoordinated I guess, but those guys had thier hands full with the full size cars, so it's understandable. These shows are never easy, no matter how much planning you make. My Dad promoted shows back in the 80's, and there was always some problem. As kool as most car people are, there are a ton of whiners and babies at every show. That was the relief of the BilletProof show. Everybody seemed pretty darned happy and friendly! So, next year, I'll drag some hotrods up there. I think I'll finally break down a do some large scale stuff...... ;D

That looked like a great show ! I went to a few cruise nighjts in Orlando when I was on vascation a few years ago. The cars were beautiful . Up here, its not just VW'S that don't hold up, its everything . If its parked, just give it a couple years and its toast -I envy you south and west coasters !

OK, gang .............a little trivia question for you...............
The rear view of the VW pick-up ( the one with the bike in the back ) has a bit of body work that would not pass an inspection for safety. Can any one tell me what the problem is ?

Probably no latch handle on the engine bay.
Or maybe the bottle opener? Bumper too low? Too small taillights? So many to choose from...... ;D

Tim, good for you trying to answer my trivia question. Unfortunately you were wrong, ( heh heh heh ). The tailgate does not have any holes in it. This means that the tailgate, in a lowered position would cover the tailites and they would not be visible. All of the VW pick-ups that I have ever seen had these holes.
