Hey guys, I picked up one of these RM (Bone Daddy) bikes tonight. I've seen a few of you guys build them and post the progress photos on here. What were your thoughts about them? I've noticed that the rake looks like it's comes from the tripple trees and the instructions says the engine ought to be a panhead, but it looks more like an EVO to me. Overall it looks good, even right down to the Metzelers. Would it be hard to detail this sucker out with the brake lines, throttle cables, spark plug wires, etc? I know I won't be too happy with major items like the cables missing. If I'm not going to be happy with the end result, why even bother, right? (Missing cables on the bike models stick out like a sore thumb to me.) If I do build it I would build it like one of the bikes found in "The Horse Backstreet Choppers" www.thehorsemag.com/Then again, looking at the box top I get some visions of something that might have rolled out of the Exile Customs shop (maybe do a second one - dunno tho). Cheers,

Hey DJ: I haven't built any of the RM ones yet,
as for the cables and such, that is easy, 30 gauge wire for the plugs, 26 gauge wire for the cables, thin solder could be used for the fuel lines, or stip the 28 guage wire and use it bare, the pre soldered wire looks like chrome when it is stripped.
the only 1/25th scale bikes I have is a old amt parts pack Triumph, or is it revell???, then the MPC reissued trikes thanks to Dean,

I agree with Tim, these bikes are great to build, and the possibilities are endless!! Several members here have came up with some really kool ideas for these bikes, and if you go back through the archives of completed projects posts, most can still be found. Here are a few of mine, and stay tuned for my newest creation coming soon!!!Have fun, and don't forget to show us what you come up with!!!

WOW.
Talk about two different approaches, both with stunning results! Tim - You are simply the master. Loved seeing your Goul Bus again. The Tiki trike is jus' too Koool.
Rat Rod- Tight and stunning. The black and gold bike is a subtle killer.
Never built any of those bikes. Still don't have the urge. You guys make it look fun.
Do have a couple Super Diggers though, Tim. Got an idea for a little bashing.
Thanks for the pics gents.

They are all great!!! This is the really awesome aspect about these forums. We are all different people that have different styles of building, and that makes for some really great conversation, and idea sharing. No one here is really that much better than the next, we just do different things, in different ways with different styles & ideas. I strive a little for the realistic side, and Tim has done some really awesome paint schemes, and his TIKI bike is still one of the coolest ideas I have ever seen executed!!! Boom did a couple bad ass bikes too, and did that wicked trike too with a killer paint job!! A lot of people here have done some too, and I for one want to see MORE!!! These bikes are far from dead, so go for it!!!
Ron, I have almost every 1/8 scale motorcycle made in my collection from the 60's and early 70's, they are really cool old kits!!! Don't be shy, show 'em off!!!

Okay, I went into the hobby shop and bought another bike. I'm going to *ahem* attempt o build a knock off of an Exile Cycle "Mad Max" bike and some other custom soft tail.
Rat Rod, How'd ya do the solid rear rim on your silver bike? I will have to do that as well for the "Mad Max" bike. Also, what did you do for the round cylinder for the air cleaner?
Any ideas on how to build the teardrop S&S air cleaner guys?
Dwayne, which guitar strings did use use for your cables?
Now.... I just need to go get a couple cases of beer and have the girlfriend pick an outfit up at the adult store and I'll be good to go!! ;D Beer, boobs and bikes - #$%& I feel MUCH better now! ;D

Hey Now !!!! Check out my all the modifications... Only a person who built one of these would understand what was modified. Well 1st all the drive belts..... Even for the rear rim has a drive belt. Stole the entire drive line components from one of those Orange County Chopper Diecast.... I put a little raised GT type spoiler on the rear fender and put in the shift linkage above primary belt. Carbuterator was off the OCC Bike Diecast with custom spun aluminum bell and foam insert inside the bell. Shave the battery sides to put in the battery hold downs. Even the mirror is from the OCC diecast. Closer look at the Carbuterator and I even made my own Hex fittings. Upholstered the seat and even a better look at the primary belt. Man it is so hard to keep that lint off the bike when you do close-up pictures... Even has one of those top fuel bikes front spoiler things. The paint job is done with a "MetalFlake Brand of candy Purple thru an air brush with a Hok silver base (Not Orion Silver) This bike took me 75 hours to build span over 2 months. Thanks for checking it out.......... Fuelish

After looking at this for a bit, I have some more questions for you guys. First the reference photos: Obviioulsy the Soft tail frame is going to need some hacking in order to become the rigid in the photos. The swing arm is going to have to be chopped and glued back into the frame and the tube under the seat will have to be replace with a straight piece. Both ought to be pretty straight forward. Would I have to reinforce the back with plastic pins or metal pins? My big concern is with the neck and down tubes. I'm goig to have to shorten the backbone(?) move the steering neck back and realine the down tubes. What sort of reinforncing am I going to have to do there (if any) ? Hopefully the next time I post regarding this project I'll have somethign to show for all these questions.

Darren, hacking the softail frame up to build a rigid would be a bit of a chore, I have studied that idea several times before. I personaly think it would almost be easier to get some plastic rod, and build a complete frame from scratch. Here's what I did, using Kelly's idea for the front of the frame (shortening the down tubes, and arching the backbone), I also used the hard tail frame, and removed the dip, and made a real rigid. You could either make a pie cut in the backbone near the back to straighten it, or completely replace it with plastic rod. Just about anything can be done with a little planning, and skill. The Exile bikes have a definite look to 'em, there's one here in my town!!! So go for it, and keep us informed!!!Fuelish.....That's one badd ass bike man!!!

Man, my builds look like puke now after looking at some of these. LOL. Fuelish, thats the most detail I think I've ever seen on one of these things, nice work. As far as the Exile bike, why not just do your own version of it, and not worry about being exact? You can drive yourself nuts witht his stuff. I was at Big Lots last night, and they had a bunch of those cheesy ass diecast choppers on closeout, might be worth looking at to scrounge for detail parts? You asked about the King Chopper. Mine is one of my very favortie Tom Daniels kits. I had one on my nightstand as a kid for years until it finally just fell apart. I got one from John Greczula a few years back, and just had a blast building it. It sits in front of me at my office, and I look at it every day, and still love it!

Hi Guys, Yes, I know this thread has come back from the dead, but so has the project. I haven't come back from the dead either... I've just been lurking from time to time as well. I had lost interest in the two Revell choppers, tried to sell them on kijiji, but no one wanted them so I decided to re-visit the project. I decided to use a stock frame from one of the two kits and strip the chrome off all the parts. Here's the results from (nearly) four years ago combined and recent efforts after dunking everything in windex. The photo was taken with my cell phone. Enough talk - picture time!! The triple trees have been re-racked; the handle bar risers shortened; some tabs have been cut off the frame; details trimmed out on the rear sprocket and rotors; and, the rear fender had been trimmed to resemble the same off the exile bike mentioned earlier. Plans include making a new oil tank, changing the seat and possibly adding some details. Does anybody remember the link to the fellow that did that chopper build up tutorial a few years ago? I can't remember who did that, but it was an awesome bike. Hope you klowns enjoy my humble progress. PS. I've also made a little head way on a 1/12 scale '57 chevy, a '32 ford roadster, and a Barris Buggy. The blue-candy with lace Plymouth still waits to have the suspension lowered and frame painted.

By the way, could one of the moderators please move the thread over to the OT build section? I'd like to follow proper protocol, even if this does come back from the archives.
Cheers!
