Seeing as Joe D's 40 scared the living nitrous outta me I thought I better get something going on with this build or I'll get an ass-whooping for sure ;D I'm using the recently re-issued 40 by Lindberg which is fulla flash, but I got it here and its not doing anything so what better basis for a largely scratchbuilt project? Here's the look I'm going for, modern wheels Mustang engine, 9 inch rear axle and some cool showy colour: Started scratchbuilding a chassis tonight, I love cutting bending and gluing plastic to make frames, it's one of my guilty modellnig pleasures: Not got much done yet, but one the frame is worked out I'll be rocking and rolling. Bit stuck on what front clip to use - any ideas?

No ideas other than the obvious need to keep it in the weeds. These simply just look better that way..!

One of those Testors Smoothster/Coupester/Vantastic kits might offer up a front suspension that would be both modern AND low.

I gotta I dea for it!!!!!
The AMT 34 ford comes with a pretty decent indipendant front suspention, that with verry little work would tuck into them fat fenders wicked easy! poseable, Chrome A arm with the generic "post in the hole" wheel mounts!
Just an idea?

Hey, wadda ya know? A 49 Merc front end (from an AMT parts kit I had lying around) that is cut up, melted, shortened and sectioned and glue will fit just perfect! ;D The completed assembly has got some kinda wishbone with coils type of arrangement, and it kinda fits the theme I'm going with ok.

Its slow boring work, but I'm finally making some ground with this one... I've spent about 5 hours getting the body a little more reasonable, but it's still not 100%. Got a long way to go in this war... ;D

Yeah, but you need to pick an 'enemy' to war against. I'm building for an April 14th deadline but I think everyone has just determined their deadlines with 'the enemy' ;D

I hate those wheels now - steelies it is!
Spent night after night getting this body 'straight' - and I haven't even seen it with primer on yet! If I only started with a decent kit I'd be done by now ;D Joe's getting close to being done on his so I thought I'd better step my game up a little and get working on this again, so I'll be laying down some primer first chance I get. From there, all I gotta do is build about a thousand parts and then it's done ;D

Just had a little burst of inspiration and rounded out the rear wheel arches - I thought they'd look cool in more of a teardrop shape. Whaddya think fellas?

This 40 is turning into a SERIOUS scratchbuilding project...and I'm LOVING it! Clearing rom for the engine, driveshaft and new chassis required a pretty hefty slice-job on the interior tub: I'm gonna make some kinda full-length sweeping centre console that runs from under the dash to the back of the interior, and close off the section where the chassis pops through with some sheet. Weather was pretty decent today, whilst I was working, so hopefully it'll hold and I'll get some primer laid down this weekend. Well, RC racing and F1 coverage permitting... ;D

Thanks Tim! I couldn't resist a little more kustom work, on the headlights this time: One down, one to go! Got the frame all finished up and pretty much ready for paint: And I'm just in the process of making a new floorpan out of Plasticard and brass sheet. It ended up so cut-up that it was easier to start again than keep working with the kit part! ;D

Made the new floorpan: Then set about boxing on some of the messy bits at the back of the interior tub: And then cracked out the brass sheet to make a trunkfloor: And a trans tunnel: Still a long way to go, but I'm getting there, slowly...
