... at least quick for me lately ... I think in one week (not working on it every day tho). Body had the most work, with putty on the seams and then painted with Testors Hugger Orange and a gazillion coats of Ultra Gloss Clear. The exhaust pipes and wheelie bars were painted with Alclad Chrome. Since the tires no longer have the Good Boot logo on them, I painted them on. Worst part of the driver was getting a good color for the hair! After several tries, mixes, washes, etc., finally got one that I thought looked decent enough. The kit comes with an extra part, the drag chute release, not mentioned in the instructions. I can't remember if the original kit did say where this was to go, or if it was one of their other kits that did ... at any rate, it got glued into the interior behind the right hand. Alclad Chromed that piece as well. Good lord, I first built this one 36 years ago!!! Still an awful lot of fun to build ... now if only Revell would release the rest (especially the funny car) in the series!

You're not the only one wanting to see those again. I want the "Swine Hunt" or what ever that was. And the Meyers Buggy.

One thing I gotta say ... I don't like these new soft vinyl tires ... they aren't as nice to put together, and they warp & distort pretty easy at the spot where they're attached to the sprue (looks like heat got to them, and they warped slightly .. my copy of the Deal's Wheels Van had a spot on the rear tires where it actually was melted!)
Other than that ... really no problems, and the jokey instructions are cool too!

Nice! - haven't seen this one in my LHS yet. But I haven't even built the 90's reissue that I got there a few years ago!

The '57 is due in August, I think. I'd really like to see the Malibu F/C again - can you imagine making an altered using that chassis and one of the cartoony Fink/Weird-Oh T-bodies?

Nice work, it looks great!! I don't think that extra handle you're referring to is a drag chute release, it's actually a spare steering wheel to install if you don't want to install the driver and his hands. I think it is mentioned in the instructions, I'll have to double-check that at home. Personally I consider it sacrilege not to install the driver in a Deal's Wheels car though ;D

Personally I consider it sacrilege not to install the driver in a Deal's Wheels car though ;D I just checked and part #5 is indeed an optional steering wheel for those that don't want to install the driver figure. It is drawn in and the instructions state: "You can put optional wheel (5) in place of me but that right hand (6) flipping the V for Peace sign is sure going to look freaky coming out of nowhere." It is in the original issue and the '95 reissue, but get this... for some reason when they reissued it this year they omitted that from the instructions. Strange.

After you mentioned that, I thought "hey, yea, I think I remember now -- that's right! that was the substitute steering wheel!" But it looks cool as a chute release too! Had to do SOMETHING with that part! Right now I'm currently working on the DW Van ... one of the few I didn't have when they originally came out, so that makes it a little more extra fun to work on!

The Van is cool, although I greatly prefer the original goldish metalflake color to the dark brown of the '96 reissue. But if you're painting it, it doesn't much matter. You've got to love the little magnifying glass it comes with so you can admire the "3.5 hp veedub motor", great stuff!

Oh, its getting painted, since I've got that '96 reissue ... otherwise it'd look like the HersheyMobile or something! (that's it ... put a big plastic chocolate kiss on the top of it instead of surfboards ). Already been primered and waiting for the colors (right now planning on a metallic Lime Gold for the top half, Metallic Blue or a Metallic Teal for the bottom half). What a horrible color for the kit ... when I bought it brand new a few months ago and opened up and saw the color, first thought was "yikes!!!" (then I saw one of the rear tires had partially melted ... it'll be hidden under the body at least ... went "double yikes!!" on that)
