Well, I got the parts box and finally had a chance to sift through it. I know some of you guys weren't too happy that it wasn't overflowing with Rommel's Rods and Royal Rails when you got it, but I must say that I was pretty happy with the results. I did take it upon myself to throw away a few things, like radiator supports to Chevelles and extremely gluebombed hoods, about 20 AMT '57 Chevy front bench seats, and sprues that were loose, but overall I think it's a great idea.
I primarily work from piles of parts, and having a stocked supply helps make better models. I think for the box to have passed through so many hands already and I still pulled a stuffed ziplock baggie full of stuff that related to what I build is pretty good. I looked at stuff and left a lot of things that I had dupes of, or thought would great for somebody else who kitbashes. Whoever picks up the pro street truck is going to have a great model. That was cool. The roof was a bit off in the chop, but I'd just paint it and go. It's a heck of an opportunity to have a chopped, pro-mod style pickup without having to do the hard stuff.
Alan the tire king kicked in a freezer bag full of slicks, of which I took three pairs, and I scored a Garbage truck cab that will come in handy I'm sure. I also scored two 1/12-ish scale four barrells that are the perfect solution to the induction problem I was having with my bulldozer-motored C-cab Puller. That solution alone was well worth the postage I will pay, as I have been wrestling with that for quite some time. I will be putting some cool stuff in there this weekend and hopefully it will go out this Monday.
I need Bill Clark's address...
Bottom line, if you build from parts, there was a lot of neat little stuff like headlights, and motor parts. If you are looking for an Ebay score of holy grails or complete projects, you should pass on it. I'm glad we did it, and I wouldn't mind seeing it come back around at a later date with new stuff. You guys know what we build, put a few things we can use in there and all will be well.
