ok, i'm sure this question has been asked many times, but what brand you guys use for a black paint base to spray alcad chrome ? as i recall, there was some paints to avoid. laquer or enamel ? also, how long should you wait until you paint the chrome over it ? i'd send these parts to be replated, but after losing two packages with parts due to the mail servive, i figured these are never leaving my basement !

I have used Krylon gloss black with good results, but definitely wait a couple days before spraying the alcad.

I've also had good luck with Tamiya rattlecan gloss black. Hey, I might still have that picture on what happens if you use acrylic gloss black (turns out to be a nice steel gray) -- it was all a planned experiment on my part! Humbrol gloss black doesn't seem to be too bad either, but I hate those stupid lids on their paints. But I'll also go with Testors, and agree on the wait. Too soon, and the chrome finish isn't very good (although the half-chrome, dungy black look does go good for detail on certain parts).

Tamiya rattle can gloss black is what I use also. It can be covered within 10-15 minutes, depending on the temp.,or you can wait a day or so if you want.

iuse rustoleum from a can that has been de-canned and airbrushed on. It is super shiny. The most important thing is glossiness and smoothness. I have also used dark blue which is actually a little mor chrome like.

Well Don 0- I've used both Lacquer and enamel based paints for my Alclad and seen little difference .. I've found that the less you use of the Alclad the better the result . I also apply it at 5-7 psi in one thin wet/even coat ... The frame and other suspension parts are sprayed with Alclad II on my King "T" . I prefer to use lacquer base vs. waiting a day or so for the enamel to dry ... Must be an anxiety disorder as I hate to wait !!! ...LOL!!!!....... Chuck D.

Thanks ... I use good old lacquer thinner to clean my guns... I completely dis-assemble my gun after each project and clean it completely .. I use an Iwata and an old Badger Anthem ... I still love that old Anthem gun (Sorry Tim!) and it lays a pretty good lick. .. !!
