After a few hours (and a few more) I hacked together this little jewel in the rough... The P'odd Rod body... Some kind of later 30's car body and fenders (Ford?) from Ertl, I had in a box and the ball body from the Sea Trek underwater pickup truck ... It'll have the biggest, blowniest, craziest hulk of an engine stuffed into that big hole in the back, as soon as I can scrape one up. Whatcha think so far?

Nice hackin'! I'm with you. Massive blower motor required! What about a 1/12 motor from maybe the Hard Hat Hauler or the like? That would REALLY set it off big!

"P'odd Rod" gets a power plant but I couldn't find an engine that was "Big" enough to suit my plans... So, with the help of some square stock, I made a "Bigger" motor... I also have a good chunk of frame made, (sorry, no underside shots yet) so I can mount the wheels and tires easy enough... I like the spoke wheels, but the gold just doesn't really get it for me... Not sure what I'll do there yet, thinking of painting them red... I haven't decided on a color yet, but I'm thinking pearl white and silver, with some red and black touches here and there... Thoughts, comments?

I would change that air intake. . . to match more of your roof line. THe one you have is too boxy and your ride is so round . . and cool!
Just a thought. Gb barten

I've dumped the chrome scoop and am exparimenting with new ideas, like a modified aircraft fuel tank... You'll see in the following pictures. But first, a story, it's a short one, so bear with me. I think a great name can make a great car. I've liked the name "Dutch Treat" as a name for a Von Dutch (Kenny Howard, not the present 'name brand'...) but I've had a hard time thing of what could be called a tribute car... Then I got to looking at the P'odd Rod and I thought, with the right sort of spoiler it might chage the direction of this completely... So, the "P'odd Rod" is no more... "Dutch Treat" is now officialy started... No more words, a single picture is now worth over a thousand in todays market! So, Here's several thousand worth!

Added several body lines. Some will pretty much stay, some get putty buddies... Also 'finished' the front end design, side and engine (Wacked down the belly tank big time.) scoops and the divit in the rear section. With the windscreen in place, those with good imaginations might "see" where this is going. Paint will be pearl white, with an odd blue tu-tone in front, gold fogging around most all the body edges. Nuff talk, shots! Thoughts? Comments? Keep those cards and letters comin'!

Got the underside planned and panned... Started jamming putty into nooks and crannies, voondy-Va, the body takes shape... Finished filling in the engine compartment too. Little more putty here and there, a little sanding, some paint and details to go... And about 30 days till deadline, might just make it.

I like everything you've done on this so far, except the rims. They don't flow with the rest of it. You need some good chrome bladed ones or something more aerodynamic looking like the rest of this project. My 2 cents worth.
You sure as hell pulled off making the rest of this thing work though! It's pretty kool! What color are you going to paint it?

Thanks to all! The rims Tim? Okay, here's the deal. While not my first choice by any means, they do fit a few criteria. First up and most importaint, I already have them and they really do give that 60's/70's "Show Rod" vibe I want to capture so bad, and the only thing I truly hate about them is the gold, but I think I have a way of making it work... If not, I'll paint them, red maybe... I did go out of my way to get that 'over the top 'wheel off set with a third of the tire hanging out of the fender well and the short squat with the big fat drag slick just screams "70's"! Second, I set a self imposed rule that I had to at least try my very best to ONLY use things I had on hand, albeit 15 years old. (Testament to Testors gray putty, still good after 15 years! ) And they were a set of wheel I got on clearance at a Hobby Shop that I'd never used before. I like to use something different on each model I build. Granted, that does open up the aluminum slot or the classic Crager SS, but I don't have ether on hand. Fact is, if I can locate a rattle can of Testors Pearl clear coat Steve Hammann gave me about ten years ago, I will have used 100% 10 year or older stuff to make this. Another cool thing is, other than the Sea Trek kit, no real models were harmed in it's creation, it's also 90% parts box junk! (Not THAT much undersea pick-um-up reality went into it when you get right down to it, at least by volume...) The closest any one model donated would be, I think, a 36 Ford convertible for the fenders and the rear section of the body, the rest is cobbled together stuff. It's also a complete departure from anything I've built in my adult model building life. Of which I'd taken a dozen year break from. Gad this is fun!

What kind of wheels do you want? I will donate an ancient set of whatever will work and be "right"... I'm serious....

i agree with dan. the big boxy snap draggin scoop looks out of place. it needs a more rounded scoop to flow with the round roofline. this thing reminds me of an underwater type lab that divers might spend time in under the sea. i have no idea if that is the direction you're going or not, but how about a periscope styled scoop that's rounded ? just a thought.
