if you wanna talk and post about cars that we USED TO HAVE, then check this out. (some of the pics and the videos are on different sites, and i could only post links to them) all of these pics are old, and some of you have probably seen them before. The videos were originally shot with a vhs camera. I recorded them off of the t.v. screen with my digital camera, and that's why they are kind of low quality. 68 nova that i built when i was in high school i got it as a 6 cylinder / powerglide car. stripped it all down, put in a mild 396 with nitrous and a turbo 400 trans. Painted it dark forest green laquer. I don't have any pics of it after it was painted tho. it ran 12.50's in the 1/4 with street tires and full exhaust. you can see the 48 chevy street rod off to the side that my dad was building at the time. here's the 396 that i built for it. hey, it was the 80's, dig the flourescent pink breather and the red headers !!! here's a pic of me working on it...yeah, i had a skullet hair cut !! www.fquick.com/garages/viewgallery.php?action=viewimg&id=177579another pic of me working on it. notice that i shaved the door handles off, and filled the holes. you can also see the original pea green paint that was on it when i got it. www.fquick.com/garages/viewgallery.php?action=viewimg&id=177580my next nova was a gutted street / drag car...no interior except for 2 bucket seats, a roll bar, the stock dash and door panels. 1 peice fiberglass front end, stock 10 bolt rear end (non posi, 2:73 gears) with $20.00 slapper bars. worn out totally stock front suspension, a built 454 with nitrous, a built turbo 400 with a shift kit and a 3500 stal converter. i had this car when i was around 17 years old. I built the motor, my dad built the transmission. it ran 11.90's with full exhaust and cheater slicks. (the slicks are not on it in these pics). this was my every day driver, and i built it to look this way on purpose, I used to street race it, and it fooled alot of people. 71 chevelle that i built. the drivers side 1/4 panel / door were wrecked before i got the car. this pic. shows the damage...it's kind of hard to see. i was around 18 when i built this car. here it is durihng the body work. i cut the bad section of 1/4 panel and door post out, and replaced it with the same section that i cut out of a wrecked 70 chevelle (which is where the new door came from too). here it is after the body work was done. I never did paint the car. the paint was the original marina blue that it was painted when it was new. also notice the different rear tires that are on it now. (mickey thompsons) the big fat "superwides" that were on it during the body work got 0 traction. the mickeys were no better. it had a 468 big block in it with alot of work done to it (too much to explaine, but the sound of it will que you in) . a built turbo 400 with a 3500 stall converter, 12 bolt posi with 3:90 gears. with 10" slicks, through the mufflers it ran mid 10's. here i am just out having some fun with some regular tires on the back. also notice the cheesy looking silver painted rims. Once again, i was after the sleeper look, but the sound of it gave it away that this was definitly not a stock 350 with headers. I built the motor, and my dad built the transmission and rearend. notice...this is the correct way to do a smokey burnout that PROVES that the car has alot of h.p. no brake torque....just jam the gas and go. listen close for the 1st - 2nd gear change (right as the back tire goes over the yellow line) this car would do this all day, all the way into 3rd gear...if you could keep it straight! www.fquick.com/videos/my_71_chevelle_burnout/6742this was in the driveway of the gas station that i worked at back then. The owner was not too happy with me....lol. www.fquick.com/videos/gas_station_burnout/6743another nice loooong smokey burnout on the abandoned road that we used to street race on. if i remember right, i got it into 3rd gear during this one. www.fquick.com/videos/a_nice_long__smokey_burnout_in_my_71_chevelle/674455 ford panel truck that i bought for $500.00. It had a 312 y-block in it, with a 4 barrel and 3- on - the - tree. plans were to make it a street rod, but i sold it before that ever happened. i drove it back & forth to school for a year, as you see it in this pic. it was an old Zenith t.v. repair truck, and you could faintly see "Zenith" on the sides...it's REALLY hard to see in the pic i had other cars too, but i don't have pics of them. they include a 73 jeep c-j 5, 4 wheel drive, with a small block chevy in it, big cam, edelbrock scorpion intake, holley 650 d.p. chrome fenderwell headers, 3 inch suspension lift, 2 inch body lift and 38" tires. it was bright yellow with a black soft top and interior. I really wish that i had just one pic. of it. a 48 chevy sedan street rod project that was sold before i could get it done. My first child was on the way and i needed money. a red chevy citation (actually, you can see it in the background in one of the pics of my 68 nova). it had a v-6, and i used to bracket race it all the time., it ran consistent 18.52 in the 1/4 mile with the a/c on. without the a/c on, it never ran consistent times....lol.

Great score on the Panel. Not a bad price. Ken... yeah ken. when i bought it, it ran and i drove it home. I did eventually put some different tires on it and i painted the stock rims red. It had dual exhaust with smithys glasspacks on it. I sold it for $1500.00, so i made some money on it, but...i was a knucklehead. It woudl be worth far more than that today if i would have kept it. I had this truck while i was building my second nova...so i was still in high school (around 1985-86)

Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait...if we are going to be including cars we used to have, then I can play a little bit. T-Bucket My first car...'61 Comet (we were both the same age!) Not as impressive as most of the postings here, but a little bit better than just a '91 Civic.

hey rob, i had to dig around this morning but i did find 2 of my time slips from the test and tune, the 60' on one is 1.633 and the other is a 1.629, i was running 4:11 gears, a turbo 350 with 3800 stall convertor, and full blown slicks. for weight transfer i had the battery in the trunk, and only had 2 gallons of gas in the tank. all the a/c stuff was off the car all emmisions stuff i removed. everything that didnt pertain to the engine i removed. in the end the car weighed rougly 3300 lbs. i know its not light but its alot less than what it was.
since ive sold the car ive regretted it almost everyday. but now i see monte's all over the place and want to do a different type of Gbody street strip car. i have either a 80's hurst olds or 442 for the next idea, but i want to find one thats decent that all i gotta do is strip it and throw a killer driveline in

RoB did you do all your own renching? i did most of it dan. I built the engines and my dad built the transmissions. i did all of the tuning, which is critcal on a high performance engine . I have no idea how much horsepower any of them were making, never put them on a dyno. my dad tought me all about building engines, and you know how my dad is dan....he's a 60 year old teenage hoodlum hot rodder....lol

you guys are killing me
Rob, that Nova is awesome. I had a 72 350 when I moved to Ohio in 1999. It was a Colorado car so mostly rust free. Carol made me sell it when the Corvette came home from my son.
Tory, I'm sure the Tbucket story is worth a tear in a beer somewhere.....
Chuck and Tim... you both ... well you know
Kerry... what hours do you work again? I'll guard the '30 project for you.
Emerielinni and Ken.. you guys are livin the dream.
basement... can I talk you out of the blown sbc in the 72 goat? There's just something 'wrong' about that
BOTW... I always wanted a 55 with a sbc , 4 speed, yello/white with a white interior and cragars. 56 and 57's.. nice cars but they aint no 55.
Davevan.. I was going to look at 72 Jav/amx the day after I went to look at the 72 Nova. The guy was a nut case on the phone and that was the determining factor in me buying the Nova and never going to see the amx in person. Always wonder wondered if that was the right move.... but that doubt always disappeared when the Nova rumbled to life with the first turn of the key.

I'm sure we have done this several times now, but really, can it ever get old? ;D Hopefully I'm not too late to join this party. ha ha ha Here's my truck, but it hasn't moved since June due to the gas prices... Here's the latest photo of my bike, Ms Dana, a '94 HD Dyna Lowrider. I've just added the 12inch mini apes. Hopefully more changes will happen this winter. Here's my beetle. For some reason this attracts more attention than any other vehicle I've owned. Hopefully next summer I will mount some taller tires to those EMPI rims. The Accura Integra seats had just been installed in this photo. The engine is just a stock 1600, but it's going strong. it's just everything else on the car that's broken or missing. HA HA HA HA HA ;D As long as it can keep getting me to college, all will be good.

Man you guys have/had some COOL rides... Here's some of mine.. My 2 `68 Plymouth Sport Furies. The Gold one hasn't run in years. I've tried to get my son at a young age to get into cars and help build it for him..But he found girls, music, and video games and never got lazy now he's 22 and too busy working and school to care.. ? The Green one I got for the parts and interior. I also turned 40 5 years ago and needed a new toy. Well I blew the tranny hotrodding it all the time and now I can't afford to fix it. So neither one is running now... Here they are in their prime. The Bronco is my every day driver. Here's a few cars I've had in the past. My `55 Chevy I had in the military. My `40 Ford tudor sedan I had as a teen. My `69 Grand Prix I had as a young man. I wish I still had all my rides... BiLL..

you guys are killing me Rob, that Nova is awesome. I had a 72 350 when I moved to Ohio in 1999. It was a Colorado car so mostly rust free. Carol made me sell it when the Corvette came home from my son. . thanks paul. my 68 nova (the primerd one in the pics) was a florida car. honest to god story.... it was owned by an old lady when i bought it in 1985 / 86. (you'll have to forgive me, i may be off on the years...the 80's was a rough time for me). she bought it new in 68 from a florida dealership. it had a straight 6, powerglide, and factory a/c. manual steering and manual brakes. The original color was that pea green color, with a matching pea green interior, bench seat, column shift. she drove the nova to illinois in 1985 / 86 to visit her sister, and the trans. went out about a week after she made the trip. it had low gear only, and since it was a powerglide, it was still driveable around town, as long as you didn't get over 40 mph. she decided to sell the car and stop driving all together (she was about 70 years old i would guess) so her son decided that the car should be painted before she put it up for sale (bad idea). literally, he sprayed it in a gravel driveway with blue enamel. he didn't sand ANY of the original green paint, and he didn't use primer. Thankfully, he was smart enough to remove bumpers grill, headlights, emblems and tail lights, and he masked off everything else. he sprayed the blue enamel right over the original paint, and he sprayed it "dry" (not enough reducer) so it dried flat not glossy. there were gnats, flys, and cotton from a cotonwood tree imbeded in the paint. the car was up for sale for 1 day. i was the first to look at it, and i bought it on the spot for $900.00. this car had 53,000 original miles on it, and not a spot of rust anywhere. I drove it home and yanked the motor and trans out of it the same day that i bought the car. you could run your fingernail along the blue paint and it would come right off...lol I put my big block and turbo 400 trans in the car, and drove it for one summer with the crappy blue paint on it. the following winter i stripped the car down to bare metal and gave it a new paint job with the forest green laquer. i left the original interior in it because it was really nice (just a little faded from the florida sun). I added a b&m ratched shifter, an oil pressure gauge, a temp gauge and a tach....everything else was left stock on the interior. i did yank the heater and a/c out of it tho. I drove the car the next summer that way, and my friend bothered me that entire summer to sell the car to him. i finally gave in and sold it to him (i had my eye on different nova anyway). i sold him the car for $6500.00 (remember, this was around 1987 / 88 by now) he had the car for 2 weeks, and it got hit in the rear and was totaled. he had it parked in the street in front of his girlfriends house, and a drunk guy plowed into the rear of it going about 50 mph !!! yeah, i was a bit upset !! had i not sold it to him, i would still have that car today. live & learn i guess...

you guys are killing me basement... can I talk you out of the blown sbc in the 72 goat? There's just something 'wrong' about that im doing a mini B&M huffer on the small block, i traded some of my odd monte stuff i had... all the original stuff i set aside and didnt send with the car, im only puttin this set up in the car due to the fact im short on funds, the 400 pontiac is blown up and i cant afford to rebuild it... Poncho's are kinda pricy. plus i have all this stuff at no cost so it'll be as u can say free to do, just my time. but im not hackin the car, all this stuff is goin aside and kept for a rainy day! someday it'll be powered by a Poncho.... when i have lots of money to play with!!!! im already have an extra glass hood, and no im not sticking a scoop over a scoop either.... that drives me nuts when i see that. im going to raise the whole area that these hoods have so it'll kinda resemble a dominator style cowl hood. im thinkin it'll be up about 2 more inches to clear this set up, so it'll be minor but also stand out from the rest of the 71-2 cars
