As promised, primer and paint!... Here's a new view, that odd dark cresent shape at the bottom would be my tummy... Stripped off the chrome, won't have any when finished... Made some linkages for the scoop, had to open the hole in the roof a smudge to clear them... Headers are done and in glue up, the penny's are serving as spacers till the glue sets. Made the injector feed lines, drilled the plug holes. I'm not sure on what I'm going to do as far as a paint job/color goes... One thought is pearl yellow with the supplied "Stardust" decals (I'd need to "outsource" an extra roof or hood decal for the trunk...) with a "II" added on to make "Stardust II" and then toss a "Jr." behind Don Schu's name... I'm liking the idea that it would look familier, but be updated as well... I am going for a period style of the early 70's with the equipment, I don't like how the modern safety equipment covers the meat of the subject. Thoughts? Comments? Til next time!

Very cool, Mike. How about a variation on the AAR stripe along the side?

Very cool, Mike. How about a variation on the AAR stripe along the side? Flounder I think with that big Elephant in the back and the shaker scoop, it'd need Hemi billboards on the rear quarters, and not some wimpy small block AAR B.S. Dave Just messin with ya', Scott!

I thought about the "AAR" (All American Race) stripe, but I can't figure out how to make a strobe-stripe flow over the wierd flaired fenders and still look like a strobe stripe... I thought about, and I'm still thinking about one of the brighter colors (Panther pink, Sublime, etc.) and the classic satin black Mopar "Billboard" stripe (with HEMI of course) but, I don't feel it's flashy enough for a Funnycar/rear engine rail paint job... I'm just not sure how I want to finish out the body yet. So, for now, I'll keep working on the chassis and keep the wheels turning on colors and graphics.... Keep those cards and letters coming folks!

Pictures time! I've made progress and decided to document it with a restage of the box art to start... Fuel lines and plug wires... I found the chunk I snipped off the nose, so I thought I'd show just what was removed... I wanted the drivers head to look a little better than just an off the tree and paint, so I took an extra helmet/face and cut away everything not a face. I then took another one (Having gone through a gob of Sprint Cars just for tires, I had extra drivers to kill...) and cut away just the face, then carved out enough inside space for the face to fit. There was a bubble inside the lower section of the helmet I cut the face from, so he has this Buddy Hacket meets Mr.Bill look without his helmet! Another shot shows the new found depth this guy has now... But in reality, he's pretty shallow... Bringing up the rear, here's a shot of the pretty much finished rear end, and the tranny cooler... Till next time!

That 3/4 rear shot makes it look like it's staging for a pass. ;D You know, the driver may have a thin head, but from the front inside the helmet, it looks great. Nice work! How about "Nitro Fish" for a name? Hehehe.

Just adding this non-installed shot of the rear end and tranny to show the brake lines and disk brakes, and the transmission dipstick... I made the brakes from the Stinger supplied "Duel caliper" solid cast disk brakes by cutting away the cast in place rotors, then just cutting loose one of the calipers. I filed out a space for a new rotor and glued it to the flat cast face of the remaining caliper/mounting bracket. The rotors were cut from a Funny Car rear wheel half. Not really "cut", more like filed... I just filed the face until the rotor fell out. I then finish filed them to the thickness I wanted. The nice thing about this is, you can see the caliper through the wheel, so it's a nice extra detail for not much extra work and no money. The wheelie bars are the Stinger parts too, just shortened and cleaned up. I wrapped the springs with copper wire to add depth and to hide the hollow plastic ones better... Till next time!

Hey Mike, I personally like a neat organized work bench, but it seems like I always do my best work on a cluttered mess.....lol. Your Cuda is getting there man!!!

Light update since I painted the chassis (a nice deep metalic grey) and started sticking bits of this and that together, forever. I made a set of radious rods for the front end, it just seemed like it should have some, but I wanted them short enough that they wouldn't require cutting more of the underbody away than needed, these are what I came up with, painted and installed... Future fire bottle and scratch made master cylinder and brake pedals... Sure, they aren't 50 tiny piece marvels, but they'll do. 'Nother shot of the rear end/disk brakes. Group shot! Till next time!

Good to see more of this awesome piece, Mike. Can't wait to see it in color. Another masterpiece!
Ummm. I hate to say it, but those two 80's PS models of yours were part of what inspired me towards silly scratchbuilding. ;D See what you went and did.
SO what are you going to do with that Smug Bug back there? I had one, let it go. Still regretting it too. I toyed with the idea of a 1/16 Revell funny part bash and general body clean up.
Flounder.

Thanks to all! It's been a real fun, non-frustrating (at least none worth mentioning) build up so far, almost as easy as I thought it would be when I started. Of course I have yet to start the paint job on the body (since I don't know just what I'm going to do yet ether) beyond body work and primer... Flounder, frankly, I'm honored that my 20 year old build ups (they were fairly new when you first saw them) would inspire you to the high level of work you are doing these days! So thank you for the kind words! I'm eager to finish this, but not in a rush, a good combo generally. I'm still leaning towards pearl yellow and "Stardust II" as a name, but that's it for now... I am open to thought and ideas for the finial finish on this one... Till next time!
