Guys, just a quick update on what was known as The Portland Classic. As many of you know our beloved Bob passed away earlier this year. Bob was instrumental in getting this contest started 38 years ago. So, as a Tribute to our good friend and founder we have changed the name of the contest to "The Bob Paeth - Portland Classic Model Car Contest. SABA President Ron Martinolich and I will be the shows promoters. We are hoping for a great event with a record number of entries.
The event will be held in conjunction with the Portland Roadster Show March 6-8, 2009. The show is held every year the first full weekend in March and is held at the Oregon Convention Center.
Along with the "regular" Model car contest will be the reintroduction of the "Best of the Best Contest". The B.o.B. is open to any model that has won a first place in any class or any best of category (paint, detail, interior, etc). There will be a single trophy (THe Bob Peath Memorial Trophy) presented to the builder with the model deemed to be Best of the Best.
As soon as I get the fliers for the event I'll get them posted here.

Hey, Fletch! What a great tribute to a classic guy! Bob shook and shaped our model-building world like few others in its history. We've all got some great models and kits on our shelves and they're all because of Bob's influences. I came to know him personally far too late but our time we spent emailing, telephoning, and when he came to the Heartland Model Contest here in KC last summer was priceless. You honor his memory for us all with the contest name change and the special trophy. Bless you. Ellis

Models for the contest can be entered from move-in on Thursday March 5th through Noon Saturday the 7th. Models that are brought in during move-in will be entered at no cost to the builder. Models brought in after move-in will have to pay the entry into the Portland Roadster Show. Normally, the cost of a ticket into the Roadster Show is $15. All builders will be given a ticket to get back into the show for the awards ceremony on Sunday. Judging most likely won't take place until Sunday Morning before the doors open. So, pretty much if entries are in prior to closing the doors on Saturday night it would be judged as part of the contest. In the open contest, the classes are judged by 2-3 judges who will narrow the entries that have a chance to win. Then determine the actual class winners.
With the Best of the Best contest. The entries will be judged by a panel of judges using a points system along the lines of those used for the Revell/Pactra contests. The model with the most points will of course be deemed the winner.
So, if someone were to attend from out of the Portland Metro area. They could bring their model(s) to the Oregon Convention Center on Saturday afternoon. Then come back on Sunday afternoon for the awards ceremony. There are 4-5 hotels with-in walking distance to the Convention Center. If you google the Oregon Convention Center you can easily find those hotels.

You guys will keep the spirit alive Dave, and it's a great thing!!! I might even try to make it this year, but not sure I can. So is the convention center the twin towers, or is the convention center out where they have the real car swap meet every year?

John, the Oregon Convention Center is the twin spires just off I-5 across from the Rose Garden where the Trailblazers play. The other location is the Portland Exposition Center which is about a 1/3 of a mile south of the Interstate Bridge on I-5 as well.
If you need better info PM me and I'll give you my cell number and we can chat about it.
