I made a passing remark in the Monte Carlo kit thread about a '41 Plymouth i used to have, and Bill PM'ed me asking if I had any pictures. So I thought I might post some pics of my old cars. This first set is my '41 Plymouth business coupe. Business coupes were intended for travelling salesmen, so it had no back seat, but a perfectly monstrous trunk for all those samples. I was maybe 18 or so when Dad and I started this project, so I did a lot of dumb stuff: for some reason, I put a Chev straight six into it. The young knucklehead grinning proudly beside it is me: And then I became enamored of a sketch I saw in Street Rodder or some such mag, showing a custom '60 Chevy. So I built one. It had '59 bumpers, Cougar sequential turn signals, power windows, shaved door handles, and a tube grille. Both those cars were fairly amateurish, but by then I was starting to get an idea of how to do things properly, so my next (and last) street rod I was able to do a better job on; it was a '47 Hudson pickup. Ford 302, '64 Dodge taillights. (This car was the occasion for the only purchase of a Ford by our family since the oath sworn by my grandfather after getting rid of his much-hated Model T--I bought a '70 Mustang as a parts car). Since then, I've owned a '64 Rambler convertible (what a beauty!) and a couple Datsun roadsters, but at present the only car I have that's even moderately interesting is a Miata. Doggone it, I thought Photobucket had rotated the pictures! Well, what the heck...

MoPar is the ONLY way to go!! I put a '62 Dodge Polysphere 318 w/pushbutton Torqueflite in my '48 Plymouth street rod. I took out the original flathead six w/Fenton dual carb manifold. Marty

Marty that's ok marty...you are entitled to your opinion. but we're compairing a 41 plymouth flat 6, to an overhead valve chevy 6. you're talking about a 318 v-8 poly motor, which is a whole different animal. mopar isn't the only way to go...it's only a matter of opinion.

I'm suprised nobody commented on the Datsun? towing that big ole car. Did you have a V8 conversion in that bad boy or what?
Nice that you kept the pictures of your cars. Very cool. Thanks for sharing.

I'm suprised nobody commented on the Datsun? towing that big ole car. Did you have a V8 conversion in that bad boy or what? That was my dad's Toyota pickup. Had the stock four-banger and an automatic. Neat little truck. When we (my then-girlfriend and I) first loaded the car on the trailer, the whole shebang was pretty unstable; it weaved around so much that we stopped at the first rest stop and turned the car around on the trailer. The picture of the young knucklehead was taken at that rest stop, after we'd turned it around. Behaved better after that, but in retrospect, I suspect we were lucky to get home in one piece. ;D

Very cool rides! And you know back then it wasn't complete unless you had the "Foot" gas pedal.

...it wasn't complete unless you had the "Foot" gas pedal. Ain't that the truth! I still have a soft spot for the surfer foot gas pedals. I built a folding step for my sister's little travel trailer this last fall, and, well:
