I don't really get this one.
Can somebody that likes this tell me why they like it? Seriously, I need a different perspective than what I'm seeing. To me, it's a chassis with bathroom fixtures attached to it. I'm just not seeing the fascination with it. I've looked at my box art, I've looked at built ups but nothing about it grabs me.

I like it because its a showrod....not my favorite...but a showrod none the less. Kitbash it into something else. I can see a hillbilly out house rod for one.....

I hate it too, but I'll probably grab a few since I sold off my old one a few years back..... ;D
I have a pic in my archives from Penthouse I think of a naked babe in the real one, complete with soap bubbles. Really makes the car look good!

Kitbash it into something else. I can see a hillbilly out house rod for one..... Funny you should mention kitbashing it Dave. As I was typing the message earlier, I was already trying to envision reworking it into something more appealing. I've done that when I was looking at my kit of it as well but some ideas started stirring. I think that's my favorite part of kitbashing...making something look more like I'd like to see it. My Uncertain T with the turtle deck is a good example. I really like the Uncertain T regardless but I alwas wondered what it would look like with a turtle deck. I am enjoying the replies though, let's hear more! Everyone ring in!

I have a complete glue bomb... and I've tried several times to do something with it. With no luck. It's an odd bird to say the least, and probably one of my least favorite showrods. It looks like a rolling Lowe's display... I'm glad they are offering it again, though... a bad showrod is better than no showrod!

I got this pic from the guest gallery Nice build there by Mike. I see it as another over-the-top showrod much like the Koo-Koo Kar, Gridiron Grabber, Rickshaw, One-Arm Bandit, Li'l Roman Chariot or any of the crazy AMT Li'l series. When we were kids(remember back then) , we thought they were cool and fun. I guess that's why they sold so much originally. Of coarse, times have changed, but back then..the prevalent theme was, more wacky....the better. Kinda the fascination we had with the trading cards of drawings of rods over the top. So a few of these type of Showrods hold a special place in our memories of less care-free times...I think everyone has some favorite.

So a few of these type of Showrods hold a special place in our memories of less care-free times...I think everyone has some favorite.I get that some things were supposed to be over the top but I don't think the Bathtub was supposed to be wacky in my honest opinion. I actually like the Koo Koo Kar because there is nothing serious about it. Yes it is an oversized Koo Koo Clock with all sorts of crazy accessories but that's the thing, it's just crazy and out of proportion. The AMT stuff like that is a lot more fun just in the fact that they are all crazy nonsense of sorts all hot rodded out. This was an actual vehicle with everything proportional. Brandon's association to a Lowe's display was very funny because that's actually how I picture it...just a chassis with bathroom fixtures dolled up to some extent with all the normal bathroom accessories. What Dave Van said actually is starting to make sense to me even more. If you build a sort of body around it, maybe a bathhouse or something, it might begin to look like something more interesting. But right now it's just a buck board with everyones bathroom fastened to the top of it. Still liking the discussion though. I really enjoy everyone's take on it.

I'm with A.J. - not a favorite!Still it was a real show rod - so I'll get one to build as is and one or two for parts and bashing.JerryG wrote - "Of course, times have changed, but back then .. the prevalent theme was, more wacky .... the better."In my opinion the most enduring or (endearing) were show rods with a theme :The Vending machine, the Beer Wagon, and the Boothill Express to name a few.In fact - I think the idea back then was to have a theme running through the car - and the big names just ran out of cool themes. But to stay in the game they put out what ever they could.I think the best show rods are those that do this well.Thank's Keith

I think the thing is ugly, but I will buy a couple. A bathroom version of the Chuckwagon might be different, the outhouse wagon. I'm sure I can come up with plenty of ideas once it is sitting in front of me. I want one of the tubs, although it will have to be altered, to build a Shower Power wheelstander.
It will be fun to see what everyone here comes up with. It will be bashed well. You know Brandon will put four engines on it and monster truck tires. Don't even get me started with the names that will be created.
Maybe there is something way back in our caveman DNA that thinks taking a dump at 100 mph is a cool thing to do. I know taking a bath with that Penthouse model Tim mentioned at 100 mph would be very cool. ;D

I like it simply because: a) it was a real car; b) it was another part of the wacky '60s pop culture scene; and c) the first kit I ever entered in a model car contest. Nice to have it back, now that I finally have better reference photos to build it (the "decals" on the real car were not all red). I understand the car was commissioned for the World's Fair in England. Never saw it on the Autorama circuit in Buffalo where I grew up...

Here's that pic Mr. Nolan was talking about. It's from a Playboy pictorial titled 'B-Movie Bimbos'. I Photoshopped Becky LeBeau's outfit so she's not as exposed as she is in the magazine. The Red Baron and Pink Panther were also included in some of the other pics.

I have the original pictures that were taken by Monogram to make the models. They were not cheap but each one has the Barris Kustoms stamp on the back. I was able to score them on E-Bay a couple of years ago. I have at least three or four complete kits in various stages of completion and cant wait for the re-release. The original buggy was last seen in a warehouse in IL. The Volo Auto Museum was going to buy it but back out because from what they told me, it was in pretty rough shape.

The things about that kit that attracts me are:
1. box art.
2. LOTS of parts to play with.
3. "gold chrome"
