So I've had this pic on my bench for years, finally time to build it. Starting with a Tweedie Pie, Jawbreaker, Red Baron and ALOT of Evergreen (including 4 plastic spoons). Coming along pretty quick actually, I searched for wings for years, but none ever were close enough so I am scratching all of them now. Been busy but getting alittle progess made. The front axle is ready for plating/Alclad. Simply split and widened. I removed the hinges from the opening right door and fixed it permanently to the body, also added floorpan. The rear frame is a "gluebomb" front clip from a '32 w/ the wing supports and some custom coil mounts. Here is rear assembly w/engine. Note the notch in the body for the bellhousing. Valve covers are still undecided, might be Mopar hemi, might go custom, or flathead look. Finally got some of the engine mocked up, Turned some styrene pulleys and scoop risers. Really had to space things out to get the scoop over the wing!

MIGHT wanna try a few smaller scale WWI plane kits for the rear wing,I used one on a RED BARON version I built years ago, also some of the RED BARON aipplane kits the WINGS are perfect for this as well,.................................Chief

Very cool! So, that'll make two of the "New and Improved" Wackey Racers recreated in thrilling 3-D!!!
Just take the top wing from the Faulker Tri-Plane that comes with a Red Baron and flip it over! Bingo! Intant correcto wingo!

That's another favorite from Dawie, that i was going to do,,i suppose i should thank you for doing it,,that's one less that i have to do out of a hundred!!,,lol!!! ;)That's really comming along nicely!!!! Maybe you could cut some tubing down and just add some small pieces of strip half round styrene, just so you can get that curve in there,,that's what i was going to do,,food for thought!!

Wouldn't the wing of a Tri-Plane work from the 1/16 scale Red Barron kit ??

No, THIS is "Mutha Fokker": I've been considering trying that same Dawie illustration in 1/8 scale... and using balsa/fabric for the wings.

Well I looked at the Red Baron Triplane wings and the bottom side looks toy like, so scratch that idea... That's not to say there isn't a smaller scale aircraft that would have a nice carved underwing you could use out there.

Dawie rocks ... no doubt about it! I, too, started a Dawie Build (tm) some time back ... then got too busy with other things, and it's now "on the pile," somewhere. Just a suggestion, about making WWI-style wings: check out the many, many scratchbuilt airplanes by "Gabriel Stern" over on Internet Modeler. Here's just one of his latest builds: www.internetmodeler.com/artman/publish/aviation/Scratchbuilt_1_72_Belyaiev_BP-2_1934.php(...or go to www.internetmodeler.com/ and then type Gabriel Stern into the search box, to come up with many others.) I'm mainly linking to his work because he often uses folded-over sheet plastic to make his wings; but before he folds them (and gets that airfoil shape going) he scores the sheet from the inside; which causes a raised line, on the outside. (Simulating a wooden structure, underneath a stretched fabric covering.) As far as I know, a guy named Harry Woodman was the first to popularize the technique. He (Woodman) wrote a now-out-of-print book called "Scale Model Aircraft in Plastic Card" (or some such) in which he talked about that and other cool / innovative techniques.

The picture puts me in mind of an Arden head Flathead. It also looks like it has some kind of chrome "T" style radiator mounted behind the engine as well.

Yeah, I'm using an Olds (?) radiator from the Bev Hillbilly truck. Nice and round on top, reminds me of some of the vintage bi-plane radiators.
