I think there was a lot of ripoffs going on in japan back then. I have a plastic friction vw toy that is nearly identical to the Deal's 'Bug bomb". I have a couple of ZEE toys, one looks a bit like the Hot wheels hot heap, the other is the Silhouette . Both have huge Deals' wheels type tires on them .

I see a few more of the familiar D/W styled cars were avalible back then (Ripped off versions)
Don...I too have a wind up bug and also a late 70's/early 80's style vette ( not like the Stink Ray) Both of mine are red....neat items still though.....Stan

Zee toys also did knockoffs of built up 1/8 bikes from the Revell range. I've seen the custom Honda and Chopped Hog on Ebay in the past but there may well be others.

so thats what mine is! i have a ripoff version of the deals wheels Zzzzzzz28 camaro that had friction wind-up wheels in it that rattled around so i took them out (they didn't work anyway) i got it for free at a garage sale i put it in the junk box and didn't think about it till i got on this site and saw a Zzzzzzz28 camaro and thought that might be it was. but i always wondered about the friction wheels inside it. i painted it and added the rear slicks, wheely bars, and zoomie pipe ends it was origanily all orange will bad flame stickers i kept the rear wheels just in case they were colectible (so if anyone needs 'em PM me!)

Not too long ago, about 1999, 2001 or so Tomica Tomy had some tiny R/C cars called BitcharG. Those was released by Hobbico as Microsizers. You can do a web search for them. Many of those was Japanese car models. But they have the same kind of look to them. They themselfs have had many knockoffs as well.

The built up Bug Bomb also appeared under the Polistil banner in Europe and this is a direct copy, but I think it was licensed. I'm sure Trey knows the score on that one.
What's confusing is that Polistil also did a built up Citroen 2CV which has all the hall marks of a Deal design but it never appeared under the Revell banner.
One more for the styrene historians to ponder on.
