I was given some early 70's Road and Track magazines recently, and I started going through them I came across several ads for parts ,and saw some familiar artwork. It took a little squinting, but I managed to see the "Deal" logo on the side of them. Its too bad Revell didn't make some of these, there was a Corvair , MGB, MGTD ,Porsche , Datsun 240z, Fiat Syder, Mini Cooper and a pile of Baja racers . I still have more issues to dig through, but I wonder how many companies hired him to do their artwork ?

There was actually a prototype Porsche done for a Wheels kit. I think the clay master is in Trey's possesion, he was good friends with Dave and has the Deals Wheels site. I seem to recall a photo of it on there. A 916 maybe? I'm not surprised at you finding some "hidden" art work. He was pretty popular back in the day. You can see more of his art on Revell boxes other than the Wheels kits also, like the Moon Mixer, all those other ones styled like it, the Volkswagon Van and a few others. I think most of that box art is in the Showrod site kit area.

Hey guys! I haven't been here in ages, dropped by and looked around and this thread caught my eye Don emailed me about this and I mentioned to him in the response that Dave did a LOT of artwork for companies running ads in car magazines from the 70's right up until he passed away, you can hardly pick up a Hot Rod magazine without seeing some ad in there that Dave did. I think most people know he did the viking dude for Armor All too. He also did all the artwork for the MG Mitten parts catalog for years. He did a whole line of really cool artwork for the 4 branches of the military, the artwork was used to make memo and notepads for military exec's. Every once in a while I'll see something he did in Target, Walmart or Toys R Us in the toys section; he did a lot of card art for toys and diecast cars. He was a very prolific artist! Heck, he even designed a few Hot Wheels and other diecast cars over the years, but they weren't caricatures so they're tough to recognize. Tim, quite right on the resin of the Porsche, it's on this page of my site: treswright.vervehosting.com/Pages/prototype.htmlI took those pics back when I just had a lousy web cam, I really need to update those! It's a 2x mockup that was destined to be used to pantograph down to an actual size for the mold. Apparently when this was done they stuck a gazillion pins in the resins and by the time they were done the resins were ruined, so they tossed them. So it's really unusual that this one survived, it only did because Dave was doing some hand work on it for Revell when they canceled the Deal's Wheels line. It remained in his studio from that time until he sold it to me about 10 years ago. Dave created a web site that showed a lot of his artwork that he had done over the years. His family is keeping it online for now, it's here: www.bigdealart.com/
