In his woodie loaded with sticks, this stoked dude searches for that perfect place to hit the surf and catch a wave! This kit was originally part of the Hawk's Silly Surfers line. The "Weird-Oh's" "Silly Surfers" and "Frantics" kits were originally released by Hawk in the sixties. These comical kits featured bug eyed, big toothed monsters, crazed race car drivers, wacky beach bums, and far out rock and rollers. The Weird-Oh's were designed by Bill Campbell. The original Frantics and Silly Surfers were envisioned by Reuben Klamer, Bob Allen and Mel Shaw. Now Hawk has gone back and reissued many of these kits! I am a big fan of them! ;D I have previously built, several of them. Since I've given away or sold all of them in my youthful foolishness , I decided to build them again, especially to try to build them better... Just finished this weekend, hope you like it.

Great build - the wheels are much better than the Weird-Ohs rolling stock!

Nice build! Several long sleeping brain cells twitched at the sight of that old plastic jewel... A youthful me, some 45 or so years ago, put one of those together... I don't recall how well it came out, unpainted and fingerprinted I'm sure, but build it I did!

I like a lot about that build-up / paint job. The whitewalls were a very inspired idea -- I'll have to "steal" that one, when I finish my own kit of that subject. The surfboards are very nicely painted. I liked the effect you got on the light's glass, in back. And so on! Bravo, all around!

Thank you for the kind words! The base is an old picture frame with rear wall, on which I had poured plaster. It is only a 5mm thin layer. The kit includes a plastic base, which I have placed on this layer, expands and modify with plaster. There is no sand, just color... I did not want to glue the car to the base. The problem: the rear left wheel should remain in the air, but the whole structure falls by the weight of the driver to the left. I found a solution. I drilled a hole in the front right wheel, and filled it with lead-pellets. That was not enough for a firm stand, so this was additional necessary: I hope this info is useful and helps someone, someday...

The lead shot ballast is a clever idea. Wasn't there someone else here on the board who ballasted a Tom Daniel caricature funny car so it stood in a wheelie position?

Man Bobby, I can't get enough of the detail on this one. The lantern keeps drawing me in. I just love the way you have it detailed but the whole kit is really cool and well done as always! Good to see you keeping at it!
