This is what I am working on now (besides 2 for the TD Buildoff). I saw this 1946 VW pickup and it peaked my interest. After all who doesn't like pick ups and VW's? I am not planning to make it exactly like the pic but it's very inspirational. I will not be using the wheels and tires in the mock up. they are only there for size ratio. I am not sure what the wheels and tires will be. I want to put in a V8, but I'm not sure if I want to cut a hole in the hood or not for any type of intake. Dave I hope you like the concept. Thanks for looking.

Thanks guys.
Al - It just may be Cragars!
Markus - You are correct, this was a production car although likely limited. They also made a 4wd bug.

The Thoughts about the Build are Great. The V-8 with a Low Profile Fuel Injection would be an easy graft.
VW was a Manufacturer of Economical Vehicles, starting in 1937. They were Forced to Build for the Military Needs of the Government, for the war effort. Many of the Designs were created by this demand.

Thanks for all the additional info on this. It looks like someone add the '40 Ford conversion nose. I'm not a big fan of that. Those fenders are close to mine. I plan on tapering them closer to the body and adding a running boards from the front fender to the rear one if it looks good. I also don't think I want to cut a hole in the hood as it may distract from the nice curvature of it. So I may take eddiehooper's suggestion on the lo-pro intake. Now I am working on a frame that is more sturdy than the original one piece undercarriage it comes with. I hope to have more pics as soon as there is something to show. Dave

I put together the floor pan and the frame. Tunnel for the floor came from a '66 Chevelle the rest is scratch built. The frame is from a '55 Ford pick up as is the bed. I shortened the frame and still need to do some more work on it. So far the power train will be a fuel injected Cobra motor. More to come..... Dave

i like the idea of a v-8 under the hood, and here's a possible solution to not cutting a hole in the hood. set the engine back just a little and put a crank driven blower in it. That will give you a very low profile intake manifold to fit under the hood. or put on a paxton style belt driven supercharger, or better yet, twin turbos. I'm sure that you can fit something cool under that stock hood.

You could run a cross ram intake... two carbs, plenty of awesome.. low hood.

Or a low injection like the Olds motor that's in the Revell cars (Anglia?)

something like Caspers "Undertaker" engine could be a very low solution

How about the VW engine, in front, with a conventional automatic tranny stuck on the back? Be nice and low, and definitely different!

This has been slow here. The chassis is almost done with a bit more cleanup to do. Yes, it has Cragars on it. It's a '55 Ford P/U that I altered with a Corvette rear end and suspension. I added a F/I Cobra motor and scratch built exhaust system. The last couple shots are a preliminary build up. I hope you like it so far. Dave
