The other day, a friend gave me a model, a rare and wonderful model I'd never seen before in person: An Aurora "Archie's Car". www.professorplastik.com/monster_site/proscenium/kits/xtrakits/othernonmonsteraurorakits/whimsical/krazykars/kookykars/archiescar/archiescar_kit.htmUnfortunately, it's a gluebomb. I can save the majority of it, but the engine is a hopeless mess, and so I plan to graft in the little flathead V8 from the Revell midget. I have to do that; saving the existing engine is not an option. Now, the big questions: Should I put on Monogram whitewall slicks? Should I replace the nonexistent front suspension with something more realistic? Should I leave off the fenders and build it as a highboy? Or, since it's a very rare kit, should I build it as stock as I can? What do you say, guys: Stock, or modified?

I know this site is full of customizers , but personally, I would try to restore it as best as you can, due to the fact that its a rare kit, and more than likely never to be reissued. I've restored several gluebombs ,and even though its sometimes a major pain in the a** I have to say I prefer restoring old kits rather than building new stuff .

As everyone knows I'm a customizer, however you sound frustrated that you aren't able to fully restore it.
I would have to agree with Don and restore it as best as possible.....even the engine. Maybe it would be better to look at it in the best restored state you can get it in rather than hiding it behind replacement parts.
Are the Veronika, Archie and Hot Dog figures there too? If so then I would keep it as original as possible.

I've got Archie and Hot Dog, but, alas, no Veronica. I suppose I can fake one up from a Fujimi Race Girl...

Yeah, I'm with those guys. From what I can see, the engine isn't really visible anyway, so why bother to replace it, just glue the hood shut and make it a curbside model. But I wouldn't hot rod it, its a pretty rare kit.

Ultra rare + single run x oddly unique / gluebomb = restoration. Can't argue with the math.

l agree with most of the guys why hotrod such a rare kit you could do all those mods to a recent kit l would try and restore a kit as rare as that but then again it is yours so you can do whatever you like with it just my 2 cents

I agree, restore it.
Weren't there other Aurora kits that shared the same engine? Maybe othe parts too like the chassis.

I agree, restore it. Weren't there other Aurora kits that shared the same engine? Maybe othe parts too like the chassis. Marty Unfortunately not. The engine seems to be unique, sort of a cartoony flathead. I might be able to salvage it by building a new block from scratch, then grinding the gluebomb block out from under the peripherals and gluing the peripherals onto the new block. The intake manifold would still be "melty" though... The chassis is also unique, but actually it's in pretty good shape. Needs a new front axle, but that's a simple straight rod. (Which is why I was contemplating something more detailed.) I must admit, I'm surprised at the number of people who are advocating restoration.

Restore it as close to original as you possibly can. I've restored a bunch of models over the years, and yes, it is a real challenge to do it as original as humanly possible. There are those times when a part is completely trashed, so a replacement or scratch-built part is the only option. Good luck!
