I love these C Cab designs and spent a lot of time trying to make them as best as I could ‘Out of the Box’ but in the end, even with a lot of tweaks, I was defeated by the poor wheels and tires and the way that nothing really fits well together. But I learnt a lot and I have started a new C Cab with a lot of modifications in mind. The front suspension and steering needs some work as does the engine which lacks detail. I was thinking of replacing it with the Corvair engine from the Barris T Buggy which seems to be the best looking version of the Corvair engine in 1/24 scale. I would have to find decent air filters for the carburetors as the ones provided in the Revell kits have horrible sink marks which even filled with putty and carefully sanded still don’t look good.
The Moon Mixer: this was a lot of fun because it is so odd and original.
der Guber Wagen: I don't understand the name. Someone told me it came from the mispronounciation of the Kubelwagen but, if that's true, I stil don't get it - perhaps it's just a funny name? Unfortunately I could not get the right stance for this one. It should be more raked, I think.
The Meter Cheater: Also a lot of fun - the box art reminds me of the early Pink Panther cartoons. It would have been great if Revell had also made the driver and his customer; they would have been two fun figures to add to this humorous model.
T-Bone Stake: This kit was adapted from der Guber Wagen so the cab does not fit together well and needs a lot of work.
Dr. Krook's patent Pending: great C cab design which thankfully hides most of the engine!
Finally, a tribute to Bob Paeth who designed these models and who appeared in Dave Deal's box art for the original three kits:
