One of my customers asked if I could build a model for him. It's an old coupe modified that ran at Reading Speedway in Pa. A chance to get paid to build a model and an old coupe dirt car, pinch me, i must be in heaven! Here is the car I need to build. From what I've been told, in it's day this car kicked some serious butt. This is the kit he gave me to work from. It looks like an old asphalt modified. It won't be a complete replica, but one that will represent the car without going crazy. The first step was to cut the body up. I cut out the windows, shortened the decklid, cut the bottom of the doors, enlarged the windshield opening and made some filler pieces for the windshield posts. Now I could see what mods the frame needed, first step was to shorten it 1/2" in the back, this was the most it could be shortened and still fit the fuelcell. Before, After, With the body in place you can see the frame no longer sticks out a mile.

I noticed the engine needed to sit back further, I decided to put the wheels on it to see if the frame needed to be shortened in the front or if I could get away with just moving the engine. The frame needed to be shortened, I took 1/4" out of it. Here it is clamped in place while the glue dries. Glued back together. With the wheels on for a fit. It looks good enough for me. That's all I've got so far, stay tuned,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Thats really coming along nicely ,looking more and more like the real car. Keep us posted on your progress ! On a side note, could the AMT box art be more crappy ? It doesn't even look like they painted the body ,let alone align the panels so they fit !
