You said it Wardster: Fritz rocks!!! It is so kool to see old Ed's building/painting style being kept alive!! Yup! Big time! :-) One thing I forgot to mention, above, is that I'm really impressed with how great the "vermiculite and plaster-like powder" method works, in real life ... even when used in (our) teeny tiny scales. In other words: while I'm not doing anything in 1:1 scale, as Fritz does in his "How to build a fiberglass body" DVD set, I can see why Fritz thinks that shaping that mixture is so fabulously easy and great. I wanted to put a bubbletop on the "GlobeHopper" resin body I got from Fritz's web site. To do that, I wanted to sort of flatten the area where the bubble's ring would go; and then, later, sculpt some sort of a shape that I'd later vacu-form. Just everyday sanding and what not accomplished the initial flattening part of the "ring" area. I ground some areas down, slightly; and built up some others (using Evercoat's Metal Glaze "icing") along the inner walls; so I could re-shape what the "opening for people" looked like, when viewed from above. Then I got to thinking it would be great if I could sculpt more than one shape for a bubble; and just pop them on or off, until I had one that I really liked. Long story shorter: I figured that was as good an excuse as any, to try using that mix of a plaster-like powder, mixed 50/50 with vermiculite. I won't explain much more, here -- (I may start a build thread or do a tip about what I'm doing, and how I'm doing it?) -- but I wanted to mention that Fritz's DVD's aren't shy about sharing cool stuff! It is one thing to read about how great some technique is, in a book or whatever, but it's even better seeing someone like Fritz just sitting in his garage, with a camera rolling; showing cool how-to's that really are something that the average Joe can put to use, to immediate and cool effect; sometimes even using materials others throw away. Anyway ... [gush-fest OFF] ... but it's great to see such coolness in action ... and if you haven't picked up any of his DVD's, try 'em!

Nothing better than seeing you build a 1:1 classic using the kit instructions as a guide. Perfect!

Here's another few published mentions of Fritz's work: The current issue of "Car Kulture Deluxe" (Dec 2014, #67) just got mailed to subscribers. This issue has a four-page article (mentioned on the cover, no less!) showing off the finished "Baja Bandeeto" showrod. Mega cool, seeing it pictured all nice 'n big -- especially when it's all laid out in glorious double-page, photo-spread mode! Definite thumbs up, there! That same issue also has one more installment (three pages, this time) in their "Metallic Metamorphosis" series of how-to articles. This issue shows installment #13 in that series. Lots of well-done photos showing all the steps of what's going on, on Kustom metal work being done to Greaser Mike's 1951 Chevy. And while I'm mentioning "mentions" of stuff related to Fritz's work, I should probably throw in that I did a quick mention of some stuff Fritz did, in a scale modelling article I wrote for the first volume of "Horror & Monster Modeller" -- which was recently released by "Sci-Fi & Fantasy Modeller" from England. www.scififantasymodeller.co.uk/English/welcome.phpThat mention was towards the end of an article about a diorama I had done, loosely based on the "Plan 9 from Outer Space" movie. See page 48 for that. I know an article by me isn't anywhere near as cool as seeing Fritz's stuff ... but in the written part of that article, I wanted to at least get in a mention of Fritz's DVDs, web site, etc., to an audience who might not otherwise know such things exist. Seemed only fair to spread the word, as best I could in that article -- since it was largely Fritz who got me checking, more deeply, into what it takes to do parts of custom paint jobs that I had never attempted before I had purchased Fritz's various great DVDs! After buying those DVDs I went on a book-buying spree, and stocked up on various "weird" paint supplies I had never tried out before, and so on. (Addictive!) But back to the car magazine ... I'm stoked to see that he's saying the Baja Bandeeto's paint work may be one of the treats we all have in store for us, when ole Spritzy gets the editing work done, etc., and whatever else still needs doing, before the next (awesome, I'm sure!) set of painting DVDs will be ready for sale! I bought all of his previous DVDs, and look forward to buying any other DVDs he puts out. It's always cool seeing how stuff gets done ... and Fritz just does a great job, all-around, with his DVDs!

Just gotta say that Fritz's new "Custom Paint Tips and Tricks" three-DVD set rocks! (As his DVDs always do. He puts a lot of effort into them, and it shows.) I got my set in on Monday. Watched about half of the seven hours worth of cool instruction that's available on those three discs. Cool, interesting stuff!

The Radiator took a bit of time, I had to go to a junk yard in Kansas to get it, have a Radiator shop take it apart then i went and got the top tank and made the bungs like Roth used drought it back they put it all together with a 6 inch core and I had to section the side support straps and brought them back and they got soldered back on, a lot of back & forth driver but in the end its all worn it! Within the next few month's I'm starting on my own bubbletop showrod. I've got the rolling chassis, driveline and the assorted 60's aussie based body components. All steel too. Just gotta transplant the 38 ford rat pickup body onto another chassis first. But financially that's posing a few problems.
Thanks fritz for showing me the way..
