Here's a little something I've been playing with in between other projects. Everything on the chassis was hand made except the radius rods, and rear axle housing. At the age of 10 in 1968, my parents let me get a model while we were at the ocean (it was a way to keep me occupied so they could do some late night crabbin' & drinkin'.... ;D) I remember it being molded in red plastic, and gleaming chrome. I can't really remember if I finished it, but I doubt it. This kit straight from the box is very finicky at best, the chassis mostly, but the body needs work too. I decided that this time I am going to make an effort to do this kit a little justice. I built the kit chassis, and it turned out great, BUT.....It's not correct for this car. The engine in the kit is a small block Chevy with Ford valve covers, so I have reworked it too. The above chassis was built to replace the kit unit, and is 98% correct. Some small details are sometimes impossible to replicate exactly. Stay tuned as I try to work through this one!!!

Nice one Charlie..... ;D Here's another sneek peek.....Here's a shot of the first try at fixing the engine, mainly all I've done since is move the alternator to the other side of the block like it should be. I have also reworked the intake to now have a water outlet, and placed the distributor in the correct location. I turned the oil pan around, moved the oil filter (more Ford-ish), and turned new pulleys. The body is a real pain to do right as well. First up is the interior is molded to the inside of the body, and must be fixed, painted, and then masked before you can assemble the body. The body goes together poorly, but by doing some mods, it works out good, but is time consuming. I have the body painted, decals on, and cleared, just needs polishing. The interior has a few spots that need touched up, but nothing to elaborate.

Thats a beautiful chassis! You did some fine fabrication work on it. The body is also fine, you got the color right. Keep up the great work.

It looks great so far, but with all that work on the chassis, why mess around with that half-breed engine? Put in a proper Ford.

Steve, and Rob......The engine that comes in the kit is a small block Chevy, it's a carry over from the Tognotti T (chassis & engine) and was suppose to be. In this kit, MPC added the blower, and Cobra valve covers. The distributor is wrong, and there are no radiator hoses at all. In this era in modeling engine blocks were fairly generic, so working this one was fairly easy, I used a Ford water pump, moved the oil filter, turned the oil pan around, and completely reworked the intake manifold. The main reason I just reworked the engine was it was easier than digging in storage looking for a good AMT, or MPC candidate to replace it with.... ;D This engine will be fine when finished.

Sorry for not updating this build, got my computer hacked awhile back, and don't have the hundred bucks to get it fixed just yet....soon. This one's getting close, as is what I came up with using the leftover chassis. Stay tuned..... ;D

An old thread...but that chassis is AMAZING! Wow! It is amazing as is the finished Fire Truck ! See it here : coffincorner.proboards.com/thread/18058/chuck-millers-fire-truck-oddballFor those that haven't heard . . . John passed away suddenly last July and is greatly missed . He built some incredible Show Rods and I'm glad to say that they all still exist and are in the care of John's best friend . We miss you John , God Bless .
