I was inspired by Hobby Bobbys Car Art – Showrod Concepts thread. There were lots of cool cars there and I decided to pick one and go for it. I chose to chop up a 1964 Chevy Truck for this project. I removed the roof and fenders and narrowed the body ½ inch. Here is the pic I am building and what I have so far. I may have to shorten the body a bit as the doors look too wide. I used some of the frame and used parts of other frames for the chassis. I used a part from a tank for the fuel tank. I’m not too thrilled with the front of the rod in the original pics from the thread so I might alter the frond hood from the truck and fit it in. I hope you like it so far. All constructive criticism welcome. Thanks for looking. Dave

Cool project Dave, try using a bic lighter (empty of course... ;D) to build your fuel tank. It's a little closer in shape.

Wow, great execution so far, Dave! ;D ;D Her some more pics, maybe, it helps: Some things: The doors must not be shortened, perhaps they look shorter, but the ratio of length to height is 1.25:1, that is the same as in your model. The more important are the diameter of the wheels and their wide, it makes a big difference. In my opinion, your rear wheels are too small in diameter, as well as in width... I would look for some bigger ones... ;D And yes, the concept is a 4x4...

Cool Build Dave! Love it! My first truck was a 64 Chevy like this one, I only paid $300 for it.

I did some more work on this one. I saw that Bobby said that the doors didn’t need to be altered…..but I read it too late….. I had removed about 3/16” from the width of the doors and I do think it looks better. I took Bobbys advice concerning the rear wheels and tires. I had no tires that fit the description of wide low profile, so I had to make some. These seem to fit the bill better than the ones I had. I used some PVC pipe and sanded the edges and painted them flat black. The wheels are made from several different scale parts. I think it looks better. I will to try to get some tread on the tires once I figure out how. The engine has 8 separate intakes so I needed to make them. I used parts of a Nascar roll cage for the curved tubing. I will be using some flared tubing for the intake stacks. I also found a BIC lighter for the fuel tank of which I will be altering to fit.

A little update here. I don’t really like the front end in the pictures so I would like to change it. I have been running a few options with no satisfaction. Here is the first option that I didn’t like. I tried to run some pieces of the hood to try to bring the body and the front grill together. Although I like this idea I don’t like the stacked blinkers on the grill body. Next I tried removing the blinkers and although it looks a little better I still am not happy. It looks OK from the top but not from the front. I think I will re-do the grill housing so it’s not too bulky. I cut the lighter and domed the sides with putty and it looks great. I first mounted it on a box but didn’t like it. Maybe I'll stick with the type of mount in Bobby's computer picture. So then I tried a 4 post mount, which looks better but it’s still not there yet. The engine was sitting too low in the frame so I am in the process of raising it up higher. I will show pics when I finish that part. Dave

[glow=red,2,300]Great Progress Dave!!![/glow]
Have you considered reducing the width of the gastank so it can fit down in between the tires?

Well I finally got a rolling chassis (except for the driveshaft). I am still working on the intake stacks (not shown). The exhaust pipes are from a Vette gasser with altered collectors. The engine is from the engine parts box. The knock-offs are scratch built as well as most of the frame. The front suspension is from a Cobra, the rear end is parts box and scratch built. I know Bobby’s picture showed the rear suspension to be leaf springs but I wanted coils, and the front originally had 4WD but I didn’t want that either (sorry Bobby). Rear disk brakes are scratch built. The body is painted and the interior is finished. I need to think about the windshield now. I hope you like it so far. Dave

Hey Dave, I like it a lot so far! Great progress! ;D ;D ;D Do not worry, it's your build, you decide what goes and what does not for you... How did you do that with the profile of the rear tires? Are these decals? I would try out a matte clear coat, they shine too much, but otherwise top, great execution!

It's coming along great Dave. I like the idea of coils over leafs and why would this need to be all or 4WD, build it how you like.
Check your PM's.

The tires are made from PVC pipe which was the correct profile and yes the tread is a decal, and yes again as I will dull up the tires. Dave
