Holy cow...I found this today at a rummage sale. it's made by Hawk, dated 1970. this is what it looked like when i brought it home. the door decal literally fell off when i started wiping the dust off. upon closer inspection i found that this has never been ran and has never had fuel in it. the fuel tank is spotless on the inside, it has the original blue fuel line on it, and the piston and cylinder are as clean as new. Normally that old glow fuel would leave a gooey residue all over everything. the plastic tires don't have any marks on them at all which is another clue that this has never been ran. Normally the plastic tires would get marks on them from the car running around in circles on the concrete or blacktop (this is a tether car so only the right rear wheel is hooked to the engine) the right rear tire is rubber, with zero wear on it. the red plastic on the body is a bit faded which tells me that this sat in the sun for a long time...maybe in the window of a hobby shop? who knows. the chrome on the blower and the pipes is a bit thin and rubbed off in a few spots, and the chrome on the plastic rims has turned to a more silver color than chrome. I'm guessing that's due to exposure to sun for so many years. I don't know, but it sure is cool. here's what it looks like now.

Neat! Hot rod Bugs are always cool. I'd say strip the chrome from the blower/injector and hit it with some metalizer and flat black paint (for the belt). Maybe a little paint detail for the exhaust tips, too, and then a couple flower decals and some window glass. If ya want... ;D Oh. The steering wheel and Moon tank, too. Brian And p.s; No, can't say I do remember those.

it has an oval window. these cars were made in the 70's by Hwak, and then re-popped by testors in the mid 70's and they were called"the fast ones". the plastic body and steering wheel is the kind of plastic that will not take paint because it's very flexible and slick. I thought about re-painting the blower, scoop and pipes doe to the worn chrome, but i think i'll leave them as they are because it is the original chrome. even tho they have worn places on them, they still look decent.

I haven't seen one of these since about 1979 or 1980. An older kid down the street had one and I wanted it bad!

I have the peice that you use to lite up the glow plug too. Basically it's a clip that holds a D battery and it clips onto the the glow head. I checked it and the glow head still glows nice & orange. I bet if i put some fuel in this sucker, it'd run with no problem. the thing is tho, it's NEVER had fuel in it and it's NEVER been ran before. I think i'll leave it as it is and not ruin it by adding fuel to the tank and trying to run it.

I had this and the VW Combi pickup Testors made back in the early 70's . They were not gas powered cars , they were metal axle push toys like the ones you used to see in Woolworths . I believe the combi is still in my dads basement to this day !
