A bit of an update here.

I found this thin felt that has a sticky back you peel off the backing paper called Stick It in Michaels, it comes in a few colors too. So I painted the interior blood red and used the black felt for the carpets.
I put some paint on it and did a mock build up. I need to glue the wheels on and finish wiring the engines among many other things.
