After an upstairs room addition I couldn't leave well enough alone .. took some vacation time and spent it in the basement converting a 16' X 12" storage room into a 16' X 6' race track for the grandsons..(ok for me too ..) .. New wall material to depict that "garage" look, new acoustic ceiling to hold the noise down, added electrical circuits and extra lighting to make if noce and bright .. it's a little tough to photograph the entire track but there's still plenty of room under the track for the storage items which were there before the project began ... the stored items will then be hidden by a nice skirt around the base of the track .. It's SHOWTIME !. ..

Kool! What scale are you going to race? What kind of track? Marty Marysville, OH I'm going 32nd scale Marty .. I've got a considerable amount of new Carrera which is actually 1/24th scale track .. but I have an over abundance of Scalextric stuff so that's what I'm going with .. I've checked Scaledreams.com for track layouts and downloaded Track Designer .. if you have any other info feel free to drop me a PM or post it here ..

That's so cool! I have enough track to make a decent sized one myself but it's H.O. (afx) track. The problem is, i don't have the room in my house to build one.

That is really nice Chuck! I know that I am a little jealous. well hell .. drive on down .. and Rob ... I wanted to go with an early Thunderjet 4 lane but the prices were as much as what I paid for all new 32nd scale stuff .. and these cars have major detail.. my REAL memories are with the HO's ....

All I see is a big field of green... Is this some kind of magic invisible slot car track that only really groovy people can see?

The great thing about HO is the small space it takes. I have seen some interesting track designs on what is called a "door track". That's because it is built on a used door! They can be made to slide under a bed, hinged on wall to get it out of the way, suspended from rafters,.... Marty Marysville, OH

Thanks for the link Marty .. I had typed "Scaledreams" in an earlier message above but meant to type ELECTRICDREAMS .. I think I'm leaning towards the "Race of Champoins" layout if I can make it work in my space. ..

That's a cool track design! yep, last time i counted i had 135 peices of old aurora (1970's) afx slot car track. some of these peices are 12" long and if i remember right, i figured the footage in the 200-225 feet range. I do have almost enough of the small radius and bigger radius curves to build a 4 lane track, and i've got the monza curves, high banked daytona curves, cobble stone tracks, wiggle tracks, squeeze tracks, cross over tracks....all kinds of stuff. I even have 2 original afx track set boxes. on top of that, we have 2 newer lifelike h.o. tracks with about 100 feet of track. oh, and i also have a small carrera 1:32 track with 4 cars, and an off brand 1:32 track with loops and lanes that split into a Y's. commercial slot car racing was dying out when i was a kid, but i remember going to watch the big guys run the 1:24 scale cars at a place called little fort speedway. slot cars and tracks (mostly afx) were a huge part of my youth.

This is going ot be FUN! ! ! !
When is your first race date?
Do you have the train crossing piece of track to add a train to the layout. . .. it was always fun with a car — train crash! hehehehe
We would also add the Roco mini tanks to the chassis. . and run them around the track! All cool stuff! I will have to stop by again! to see all the updates. . .. did you build a model display case too?
God Bless Barten

That looks great Chuck. It brings back memories of the 1/24th Strombecker layout I had as a kid.
