That looks like a GREAT time! The memories they will have of you!! "Lets go slot car with Grandpa!!!" will drive your son crazy!! My Grandson is a lil over three and He begs to "Go to Grandpa Bill's to build!!" Hes been "building " with Me for a year! Its wonderful to be in our shoes, isnt it? We are so lucky to have this in our lives!!!

Clean the rear tires with tape of some kind,I use masking tape It will keep the back end of the cars from sliding around. It looks like you guys were having fun. Im going racing to night at my local hobby shop.

Those are really cool ! A buddy of mine built a 4 way Ho slot car layout, complete with trees, walls ,buildings, etc. We all have all our old slots so the racing brings back a lot of good memories . My eight year old son also gets into it, and does a lot better than some of the adults ! We are currently building a 4 lane Thunderjet track and it will have all the trees and stuff on it as well.

We've just had a ball with this thing... I had HO's (thunderjets) and remember the distinct smell of the little electric motors after running hem for hours on end .. man those were the days .. I pulled a few of my oldie 32nd scale slots out and ran them over the weekend... and lo-and behold the same smell came to be !! ... hey regardless of the scale it's all fun ... !!

Having the rearends of the cars slide around is 1/2 the fun! That looks like a really cool set up you got going on there. Man, i too can remember the smell of slot cars! Just like the smell of original testors orange glue, it's a smell you never forget.

He who goes to heaven with the most toys wins!!! Heres something i found out accidently while my son and i were playing scalextric, if you spray WD40 or similar on the track or rear tyres it makes for some awesome drifting for a lap or two. Then, and heres the best bit it seems to turn into traction compound!!! You will not believe how fast you can go and not come off the track. We used a Scalextric 69 camaro and i was stunned at the difference it made.Have fun!!!!

Thanks for the WD40 tip... I'll give it a try...I ordered some stuff called "frog spit" that some of the racers swear by.., I seem to remember the smell of peppermint back in the day...?wasn't there a compound with a peppermint base or am I way off here??

Don't let WD-40 get on the motors, IIRC, WD would burn out an RC motor pretty quick.

Careful with the WD-40!! I use it to clen my track, but here is how I do it. Spray a SMALL amount on a rag and wipe down the track. Then go over it with Windex. Too much WD-40 does funky things to plastic track after a while. Not learned from experience, but from others.
Kool track!! Glad your grankids are enjoying it!

As regards the Wd40 killing motors i have never had that problem and my sons cars have been well used! However it will make the pickups a bit grubby and the car will end up with any lint thats on the track stuck to the chassis.Best idea is to use an old car and maybe some old track if you are not sure. All i can say is it provided enough grip to turn the poor old Camaro into a one wheeler peeler in the end!!! The outside wheel wore away where it is attached to the knurled axle end! That said it was nothing a bit of two part epoxy couldnt fix. I have also had the same results with stuff called Anticorrant which smells a lot like WD40 and is free once liberated from the place i work at!!!!The only car it has not tamed is the Scalextric Starsky and Hutch Torino but then thats half the fun with that car!!!!

Well spray it hard!!!!!!!! Do a good burn out!!! hand held firmly in front of car!!!!!!! and hang the throttle wide open!!!!!!!If nothing else it will be a good laugh, which is what playing with plastic is all about right ?? and if it ends up in the scenery you can always get another one!I suggest you dont do this when the grandkids are there or they will plague you to do it to evey mint slot car you have.Have fun................

Changing direction here a smidge.... Has anyone attempted painting slot car track ? I've noticed mine (Scalextric) is slick to the touch even after wiping it down with prepsol or alcohol .. I tried a good automotive primer on a test piece and less than 10% of it adhered... Anyone know of a sure fire trick for painting this stuff?

Also if your racing room doubles as a spray booth (like mine) WD40 will wreak havoc on future paint jobs. Apparently the silicone in the spray will cause fisheyes in the paint.
