I picked up the Barnabas Vampire Van a few weeks ago, with the intention of building it box stock (minus the trailer). It seems that time was not very kind to this kit, so I'm reworking and replacing components but still trying to keep the finished look as close to "stock" as possible. So far the biggest changes have been made to the engine. The original kit was lacking several vital components like the front cover, water pump, oil filter, distributor, and fuel system. The supercharger was also a little "off," with a centered drive snout. So I added the missing items from my parts box, and replaced everything from the intake manifold up with parts from Revell's '68 Corvette. Just for fun, I made the ignition wires from clear plastic line colored with a magic marker to replicate a set of vintage transparent red coated wires. Inside, I added Moon Barefoot pedals (left over from the MCG '37 Ford detail set) and made a shift boot. Carpeting is made from a sheet of fake felt. The steering wheel rim and shovel handle are painted with oils over a red primer base to create a woodgrain effect. Here's where it is now. I loved the look of the dark gray chassis on Mark Gaare's Van, and used a similar color here. The engine block is Candyapple Red over Lime Gold Metalflake and all the interior components are shades of maroon - I'm trying to stick with a "blood red" theme All comments/criticisms welcome!

Thanks, guys! My apologies for disappearing for a while - had a pipe that started leaking right above the work bench, and everything had to be put on hold for a few weeks until that got fixed. The work space is pretty much back to normal now, and I am back to work on the Van. the front of the body had a lot of fit issues, so I started by gluing the halves together and removing the trim. I then filled in the seam, and added a new trim piece with half round stock: Also, the hood was too long to fit properly, and had a pretty bad warp along the back edge. So I shortened it, and added a filler panel to help square it up and give it some strength:

Got some paint on the van: The roof panel is Flat Black with a shot of Glosscote to give it a satin finish, and the rest of the body is Classic Black.

Thanks, guys! I'm still trying to decide if I want to do the wood trim on the body in gold (similar to what Mark Gaare and Eric Grey did) or woodgrain (like what I did for the steering wheel and shift lever). Any thoughts?

October wasn't terribly productive, but work continues on the Vampire Van! I painted the wood trim using the same method I used for the interior components, and dry brushed dark red on the curtains. After a couple weeks worth of drying time, it was ready for polishing. Here's where it is now:

I'm liking the direction you're headed. Definitely getting a nice "atmosphere" on this build. Your wood trim brings a great contrast.

That is nice. I have both the Vampire Van and a '32 Chebbie Roadster waiting to be built. I plan on cross-breeding the two.
