New York's famous for being the home of the best pizza pie in the known world. And, for a place nicknamed the Big Apple it sure is easier to get a pizza delivered any time, nite or day, than fruit. And pfftttt, who wants fruit anyway? That pie is SO good!
Tip is just a lowly pizza delivery boy pounding the streets of Manhattan by night, and dreaming of building show rods by day. And the boy got talent! If only he could build himself the ultimate pizza delivery ride, to impress even the cooler than cool NY natives then maybe he can put himself of the map and become the next Tom(ato) Daniels. He doesn't make much dough, but the more pizza he can deliver the more he'll make, so he needs a fast set of wheels! That smoky ol' scooter won't cut it for Tip!

Alright, backstory over, here goes with my first showrod build after a few years of lurking! Go easy on my guys, I'm new to this (though I've been practicing some related skills!) I came up with the idea of building a pizza themed rod whilst I was looking at the MPC reissue of the Taco Trike and thinking 'Thats kinda cool, but I dont like tacos. Or trikes. Sure does look like a slice of pizza though!' I LOVE pizza. What I'm gonna do is use the cab of the trike, somehow put a chassis under there so I can make it a four wheeler, give it some nice pizza-themed accessories and give it a killer paint job that and delivery driver would be proud to show up in! I'm thinking a pizza box grill on the front hiding the radiator, a tomato shift knob, a pizza pie steering wheel...anyone got any other ideas? Just gotta work out how to bash a chassis under this thing - that body is NARROW! Something kinda Red Baton width would probably fit - anyone got any ideas? Thanks for looking guys

Thanks guys! Koffinbuilder, the Pie Wagon idea is INSPIRED! Shoulda thought of that - Tip definitely would enjoy driving his own Pizza Pie Wagon! I did a little hunting through some kits I've collected, and found that the chassis from the Lindberg oval trackers is a perfect fit under the body! Nice leaf sprung front end, and we're half way towards having a chassis already! Next job is to mount the engine - any ideas on how to hang it in that frame? I'm going with the Small Block from the Taco kit I think

My pleasure Dan! Looks like a good start. You could use a drag-race style front plate to mount that engine. Looks like you might have room for a 'pizza warming box' in front of that engine! ;D

Well, progress has been slow on Tip's rod - not least because I dont have a clue what I'm doing! But I sure am having fun with it! First I did some parts hunting and found an Italian Grand Prix car with a nice straight-8 in it and thought 'heyyyy, why not, its a showrod, right?'. How in the hell Tip the Pizza Boy found one of those I dont know - a 'connection' from back home maybe? I modified it with some round bar, which I'll probably chrome - I came up with the idea of flowing lines running lengthways down the engine like spaghetti but I wanted it to still look like it probably COULD function still - just to add a unique touch! Then, I modified the frame to fit under the body some more, and added a little brass strip to reenforce it after it broke on the first couple tries. I found a cool triangular grill too - shaped like a pizza slice! The tyres gave me pause for thought for a while - I couldnt think what to do. I knew roughly what I wanted to find, but couldnt find them anywhere! After a frustrated couple of weeks I was browsing the 'Corner and read Hobby Bobby's tutorial on making tyres and I saw his suggestion about using bottle caps. Genius! I searched the house, found anything with a cap that looked even remotely close then enjoyed a couple of hours of mocking up. Turns out, the toothpaste tube cap makes for a great rear slick! Need to buy another tube of toothpaste now though... A couple of those little shampoo bottles that hotels sometimes leave you donated their tops for front wheels and that's another hurdle crossed! Still need to design a pizza-themed wheel though, and think of some more pizza-looking doodads to add to this sucker - tomato shift knob and a deep pan steering wheel maybe? Thanks for looking guys

I am liking this it looks good. Why not use wire rims on the front? Could just be me as I like wire wheels at the front.
