Hey fellow klowns! Been awhile since I've had a chance to post anything. Well, today that changes because I've accepted a build-up for Dale (Baronigor) of the 'old Hurst Hairy Olds kit. I decided to do this for two reasons: 1. I've never built this kit before and thought it might be fun (isn't that why we do these builds?) and 2. I thought it would be a challenge to try to create a more accurate build of this mostly curbside kit. With that said, lets start with a mock-up:
Not too bad right out of the box. Next I decided see what can be done to improve those so-called engines. I decided to go the route that Mykturk has taken with his Olds & replace the engine blocks with something a little more accurate:
I settled on the one in the center. Its closest in size & shape to the Olds engines. It appears to be 1:24 in size. And looks like an old Nascar offering (I know, a small block?) Trust me, it'll work. After stripping, cutting off the trans. & widening it 3/16" , it now looks more like a respectable Olds block:
Next time we'll fit the trans axle to "Hairys" new powerplant before we resin-cast it. As always, questions, comments always welcome! ;D
Well, after over a year & a half ago starting this project (for Dale-baronigor) being forced to stop building due to landlord issues. And then misplacing it after the dust settled, I can finally say that Harry is back on the old bench!! I have decided to let the engine sit for a while and do some work on the rest of the car (to get back in the groove!). First, the rocker trim molding had to go:
Sorry about the bad pics, I know its kinda hard to see, but it doesn't appear that the 1:1 car had them. next, all the panels were opened up (starting with the trunk):
Then, the rest of the panels were cut out:
Next, the trunk lid inner bracing was made:
The hood & trunk will be made to lift-off. To provide ease viewing of the engines. Next, will be the fab. work of the rest of the inner bracing & door jambs. That's it for now. Thanks for looking'!!!
