I have done some more work on this one. I made the front suspension parts from plastic rod, sheet plastic, a spring and some bits from the parts box. Here it is assembled with the added steering assembly.
I think I’m going with the tall thin rear tires. I don’t remember where they came from but they are at least 40 years old, I wish I had more of them.
Here is a shot of the rear end. I added the shock mounts. Dave

I'm lovin' this! I dug out a glue bomb TJ taxi and took a saw to it shortly after you posted this thread. I was wondering what to do with it because the portal windows were so distorted with glue they could not be salvaged. I never thought about a chop top! I'm thinking in the direction of a panel delivery though...
Thanks for the inspiration!
Cheers! Bill

Some more progress here. I cut out a sunroof and started weathering the seats. I added a front bench to replace the tractor seat that comes with the kit. I painted the body/frame a red oxide primer for the base color and proceeded to apply the two part rust system. I think I have it as rusted as I want. I will attempt to add some color in certain areas. I made a wooden floor and dash from stained coffee stirrers (not shown). More to come. Dave

That looks awesome ! But we missed something here . . . what two part rust system ? Please share ! Sorry, I guess I should have explained a bit more. First of all I am far from any expert on rusting. There have been volumes written on how to rust a model. I've only used this product about 3 times and as with anything else you get better at applying it each time....I hope I do! Its called Sophisticated Finishes Rust Antiquing Set and you can find in online or at Michaels (use the coupon). For the Taxi I first painted it a reddish oxide. Then on certain parts like the bottom of the oval window, the step part at the open door and the front cowl I added a darker brown paint. After that you shake up the Iron Metallic Surfacer bottle and apply it wherever you want rust. You can apply it thin or thick. I would suggest thin. After that dries you then apply the Rust Antiquing Solution (other bottle). Allow that to dry for at least 24 hours. You should see some rust at that point. You can apply additional coats allowing 24 hours drying time between coats. If after several applications of Rust Antiquing Solution it's still not enough rust apply some more of the Iron Metallic Surfacer and repeat with the Rust Antiquing Solution. Repeat until you get the desired effect. I will attempt to put on some paint after the rust is complete. I have never tried this paint application after the rust though. I have tried the rust after the paint with half decent results. I'm not sure if applying the paint after the rust will produce the results I desire though......we'll see. Dave This is the first model I used this product: This is the second model:
