I have never ever built a T-Bucket before , ever . Since I have a special project planned for later this summer involving one of these types of kits I thought I'd build a couple to see what they are all about . My first will be The Rodfather , released in 1972 and as far as I know it is not based on a real car . The first thing I noticed is that all of the parts are very nicely molded , no flash at all , and very little cleanup before painting . The top corners of the cowl required some sanding but that's it ! This will be a "box stock" build to become familiar with the parts . There aren't a lot of parts but they seem really small compared to what I'm used to . The paint is Duplicolor Royal Blue and Tamiya Pure White , and some generic silver for the suspension . I was really worried about the 40 year old decals so I sprayed them with some Decal Bonder and the went on great with no problems . Here's some photos of where it's at . After the paint dried for a few days I realized that a box stock build wasn't gonna happen and I had to add a little more detail to it . I couldn't find a master cylinder so I made one out of scrap plastic , actually 7 pieces of plastic shaped and glued together . Then I added some brake lines made out of .015 solder . I've finally figured out how to make those little tee fittings but my line clamps look like crap , I'll have to change them . And I added a fuel line made from .022 solder . This morning I found a decal sheet with some small Ford scripts on it , one of them was perfect for the tailgate . Next up is assembling the suspension . Thanks for looking !

There's been a couple of these built here before, but nothing with this much detail! Great scratch built master cylinder Bob, and great use of the fine solder too. This kit was a modified reissue of the Roth Tweedy Pie kit, which has been modified several times over the years, and the same kit that was recently back dated to the (close) original.

Thank you everybody for the comments ! Obviously I haven't done much work on this over the last month , I guess I got side tracked again ! It's still on my bench and I'll get back to it real soon . Dang , it's July already ! ! Chuck - I used to call them Adel clamps too , but I got tired of the funny looks ! Thanks , they are okay but a little too big .

Loving this build and using portions for inspiration on my Milk Truck. I gotta have a set of those rear tires! Any chance you know what kit they come from?

I'm never going to take these T-Bucket kits for granted again , this was not an easy chassis to assemble and I have a few more gray hairs to show for it ! The Rodfather is actually a slight reworking of the old Tweedy Pie kit, which dates from the era when Revell made insanely detailed kits that were hellish to put together. The Monogram T buckets, which are all descended from the Little T kit, are easier to assemble. In fact, Monogram kits of the Sixties were kind of like Tamiya kits today: Exceptionally easy to assemble and good-fitting, with only a very few exceptions (Futurista doors, I'm looking at you).

Thanks for the info ! I'll admit I don't know much about the history of these kits . I have another Rodfather and a Tweedy Pie kit and noticed that they were basically the same kit , guess I'm gonna get some good experience building them ! Today I did a little bit with the radiator and the interior . I didn't care for just the flat black radiator in that beautiful shell so I added a piece of brass screen to it . I tried a piece of stainless screen first but it looked too modern . I think maybe the brass looks more period correct , any opinions ? There really isn't much to the interior so I added some gauges from Detail Master . I put some clear on the gauge faces but for some reason they dried with a flat finish instead of glossy , maybe I'll try some Future on them in the morning .

I think the "Brass" treatment on the rad Looks GREAT Bob, good improv. I don't think it's really very crooked. ( no-worries ) One thing I noticed and ( I think ) no-ones said about, ---I see a "Purple Hue" on most of your Chrome. I was just wondering if there's maybe a purple light in the foreground when you photographed ?? I don't think it looks bad if it's actually in the parts, in fact, I think it looks KOOL !! I was Just curious. I think this whole project is looking GREAT Bob !!! -Love-It !!!

I never noticed the purple hue before . . . must be the camera . It seems to be worse on photos taken at night , during the day they are fine .

I finally got the engine finished and installed in the chassis . I added a distributor and wires , a coil , and a fuel pump and fuel line . The headers got a bit of wash to look heat stained . The rest of the engine is right out of the box . . . even the radiator hose fit like it's supposed to ! I'm usually not that lucky . Here's a few photos , thanks for looking !
