"Un-show rod" indeed. Is it okay to call you "Show Rod Bizarro" from now on? I will keep watching this WIP.

Cool looks great. I am normally not a fan of black rims but they look cool on this build.

The frame is out of the paintbooth. It's Pactra RC Black with a Red Nail Polish midcoat, followed up with Urethane Clear. It's a wild color, unfortunately the camera doesn't capture it very well. The body in the up position.

I haven't had much time to work on this, I've been busy painting my 1:1. I'm having a real hard time finding any good reference pics and I don't really know much about drag cars, so I don't know how much detail I can add. If anyone knows much about drag cars, I could use some advise. I've got the base color on the trans(?), driveshaft, and rear. The tins for the cockpit are painted. I made brake and gas pedals, and a magneto, along with cutting the kit fuel tank to fit my frame.

It's got a "70's" vibe going on, so I'd detail it with 70's drag tech, which is far simpler than the modern stuff. Cool build Dave!

As you're limited on the time to clear the basecoat, I decided to clear it then figure out the graphics. Here she is just finished, two coats with a little Ice Pearl in it. I just painted my 1:1 with this combo. Here's what the Ice Pearl does when the sun hits it, this is the headlight door from my car in the sun.

AL, the Ice Pearl I used is a coarse dry pearl from HOK which I mixed in the clear. It is not seen until the light hits it, then it explodes like a metalflake. The really nice thing about it, it's incredibly small for the reflection it gives and lays completely flat in the urethane clear. The really bad thing about it, 2oz. was over $100. The even worse thing, I had a jar of it and couldn't find it until after I bought a new jar and painted the car. On the 1:1, I used 4 level tsp.. There is enough in the jar to do about 5 cars. If you shop around, you can find 1/2 oz. quantities. On this model I used about 1/8 of a cubic inch. Kustom Shop makes a version for about 1/4 of the price. I'm trying that next time. Click on the pic.

Hey there Dave, nice work goin' on here. Enjoying the updates. Couple questions for you; "-limited on the time to clear", what kind of base coat(laq, I assume)? Limited to how long? What's the window time? Why? Sorry man, I've heard something similar regarding airbrushing on 1:1 cars and never got a straight answer. I'm starting to do A/B work in the 1:1 world and kinda need to know this stuff. Thanks bro, keep the updates comin'

I thank-you VERY much for all the great info on that Dave, ---I was maybe hoping it was in a rattlecan! ( i don't mix-up my own stuff ) --only mix my "brush-on" stuff on occasion! I have an air-brush that requires "canned-air" ... but that can of air, is always too far down on the grocery list! ---------HEY MANN !! ... I had a thought, "if" we could get our hands on a bunch of that course dry pearl, ( being that incredible price it is ) ........ if we had like 87 ounces of it, ... uh,.. well, we'd have like 147 thousand dollars !!! ----sumpthin like that, yea. ... that sucks you couldnt find that jar until after you bought another, GEEZ! -that's my luck !! -thanks -AL

What's the window time? Why? Sorry man, I've heard something similar regarding airbrushing on 1:1 cars and never got a straight answer. I'm starting to do A/B work in the 1:1 world and kinda need to know this stuff. Thanks bro, keep the updates comin' The basecoat is the base of a modern basecoat/clearcoat urethane system. The amount of time until clearing most of these systems is 24-36 hours. I was told the reason for the limited clearcoat time is that the base gets too hard for the clear to bite. You can go past the deadline, but sanding the base is required in order to get proper adhesion. Got any pics of your work? I have an air-brush that requires "canned-air" ... but that can of air, is always too far down on the grocery list! Al, don't even bother with the "Canned Air". Keep your eye out on Ebay for a compressor. If you are patient, you'll find a good deal. When my original AB compressor blew up after MANY years of use and abuse, I went to ebay to find one. I found a deal with a lot of paint, a Badger 150, and a Badger 180-11 compressor. It was about $150 shipped, so it was like I paid retail on the paint and got a free airbrush and compressor. I later contacted the seller to get info on the quick disconnect that came with it,and it winds up the the AB and Compressor had about 20 minutes use. I later added a tank, removed the "On Demand" swich it came with and added a pressure switch to it. This made it a little inconvenient to take on the road with me. I again scoured ebay and withing a week I found another 180-11 for $25, this one looked brand new other than the box. So if you're patient, you can find a compressor for the price of a few cans of air.

Thanks for all the comments guys. Right now I'm stalled until I can find some info on detailing this thing, which is starting to be much easier said than done.
