JEDI TIE WING RACER!I know it's not a Show Rod but I thought you guys might like this quick little Kit Bash! I decided to make a Streamlined Space Ship using the Main Body from the X-Wing Fighter and the Wings from the Tie Interceptor. I also got some of the Engine Parts from the B-Wing Fighter. These are Snap Kits but I remove the ends of the Snap-Posts so they don't snap anymore. Now they are Glue It Together Kits. More Coming...

TIE WINGS!I started with the Tie Wings. First I had to cut this section off both wings. I cut the sections off and then I started to sand the High Spots off flat so I could glue the Wings together. I sanded off enough raised detail so that the Wings fit together nice and tight. Here are the Wings glued together. More Coming...

Very cool idea! Just my $.02 but I wonder what it would look like with the wings flipped so the points are towards the nose of the ship?

FOUR BIG ONES!I am combining the X-Wing, B-Wing and Tie Wing Engine Technologies for Super High Speeds. The Hyperspace option is also included in this Experimental Racer! The Four Thrusters are from the Star Wars B-Wing Fighter. I am going to mount them on the rear panel of the X-Wing Body. I cut out these areas in the underside for intakes. Fine Brass Screen will probably fill these openings. More Coming...

JEDI NOSE JOB!I decided to Sand down the Ridges on the Nose to give it a Smoother, Sleeker Look. Here it is after a lot of Sanding... I filled the holes with pieces of plastic and glued them in with Zap-A-Gap. Then I used Squadron Putty to fill the gaps. More Coming...

COOL CANARDS!Dolores suggested adding wings up front. These are what I came up with. They were from a Big Jet Kit. I used Zap-a-Gap to glue the Canards on the inner groove of the bottom Body Half. Then I cut slots in the top Body Half to fit around the Canards. Here they are in place. More Coming...

HYPERDRIVE SUPERCHARGER!I decided that I needed some kind of Scoops or Intakes on the X-Wing Body, so I started looking. I found this part in the B-Wing Fighter Kit. Looks like it will fit the body with some minor fitting and cutting. I removed the Snap-Tabs from the inside and sanded the inside smooth so it fits the Body better. I did a little carving on the rear of the piece to look and fit the X-Body better. Here is a quick mock-up... More Coming...

HYPER LIGHTZ!I got some rectangular Rhinestones at the crafts store. Then I carved a little slot to hold the Rhinestones inside the Hyperdrive Supercharger... I cut a strip of plastic and fit it in the Supercharger. Then I glued it in with Zap-A-Gap and Baking Powder. Here it is painted flat Yellow, just set in place. No Glue Yet... More Coming...

PAINT BY NUMBERS!I painted the rear top section of the Body with Tamiya Flat Aluminum. I am enjoying hand painting the different sections and details. It reminds me of Paint By Numbers or a Coloring Book, lots of fun and relaxing too. I'm planning to paint more sections in different colors. The Screened areas on the Wings were painted with Flat Aluminum too. More Coming...

ROCKET ON A STICK!I am making a base for the Jedi Racer and it will support the ship with a length of Piano Wire. I drilled a hole in the bottom of the body large enough to fit a length of 1/8th " Tubing. The steel wire will fit in this tube. I slipped two more lengths of tubing over the original to give it strength. They are held in place with Zap-A-Gap Glue. I positioned the tubing so that it fits inside the hole in the wings... WHAT IF?What if you mounted the Tie Wings differently? I have had several requests t show the Jedi Tie Wing Racer with the wings reversed. Here are a few photos of one way it could be done... Another View, this one showing the Side Vision Problem... You could also mount the Tie Wings upright and attach them to the X-Wing sides, this would take care of the side vision problem... MORE COLOR-LESS SHINE!I painted the Silver details with a Silver Marking Pen. Then I did a little touch up with Silver paint and a brush. Next I added some color to the body. I hand painted the Red and Black stripes using masking tape to keep the lines straight. That worked pretty good but I did get some paint coming under the tape in a few places. So I used some of the Flat Yellow and painted over the mistakes. Then I sprayed the Wings with Testors Dullcoat. Next I sprayed the body parts with Dullcoat. More Coming...

METAL MESH!I bought this Metal Mesh at a Crafts Store. It comes in many styles and colors. I cut a piece and glued it into the Hyperspace Supercharger. I also cut some Metal Mesh to fit the underside of the body. Extra Mesh on the sides so I could glue it easier. Zap-A-Gap Glue and Baking Powder were used to hold the Mesh in place. Here is the Hyperdrive Supercharger with the Mesh in place. Here is the underside with the Mesh glued in place. More Coming...

JEDI PILOT!I painted the pilot to look like Luke Skywalker. Acrylic paint was used for color then I sprayed on some Dullcoat. I found some Instrument Panel decals in a Jet Plane Kit. Instead of using the decals I made copies on the printer in a little smaller size. Then I cut out a section that fit and glued it on the Instrument panel. Here are the Instruments in place. I also applied a light black wash on Luke to add more detail. More Coming...

FLAMES!I decided to increase the Red area, so I painted a little more Red and straightened up the lines. I didn't want to apply decals over a Non-Shiny surface so I tried some Future. I brushed the areas where I wanted decals with Future Floor Wax. It's clear acrylic and it worked very well. I cut part of the Flames Decal off so it would fit the area better. Here are the decals in place. I decided I didn't like the Flat Finish so I applied a couple coats of Testors Glosscoat. That's about it. I'll be posting photos of the finished Jedi Tie Wing Racer soon! Finished Photos Coming Soon...

JEDI TIE WING RACER IS FINISHED!The Racer was built from parts from the X-Wing Fighter, the Tie Wing Interceptor and the B-Wing Fighter Kits. The original idea was to make a Streamlined, Long Distance Racer. I actually increased the length of the Star Racer from 7 inches to 10 inches long. With the leftover parts from this project I built another Starship, The Tie X-Wing Interceptor, Check it out In this Forum! Side View. The Hyperdrive Rhinestones look like lights in this shot. More Photos Coming...
