USA Walker! Our local Santa Rosa IPMS Club & Fundemodium Hobby Shop are putting on the Big HOBBY EXPO 2014 on February 15th 2014. This show is for all kinds of Modeling including Plastic Models, Radio Control & Trains. There will also be a Special Contest at the EXPO for Ma.K Robots & Space Vehicles and Kow Yokoyama, the Ma.K designer, may come from Japan for the EXPO! I decided to make a Ma.K style Manned Research Vehicle for the EXPO! I will be using parts from the AMT AT-ST and the Revell Jedi Starfighter. I decided to add legs to the Jedi Starfighter Body. The Wing Mounting Posts need to be removed to make room for the legs. Using a cut-off wheel I removed the posts. Then I used a sharp #11 X-Acto blade to trim the cut areas smooth. More Coming...

THE LEGS!The Plan is to mount the Legs on the Body sides, where I removed the Posts. First I cut off the round section from each side of the Leg. Then I marked and cut out a slot shaped area so the Legs will fit on the side of the Body. Here are the Legs with both Slot Shaped areas removed. I trimmed the backs of the Legs some more until they fit flush against the Body. More Coming...

LEG WORK!I cut a piece of plastic tubing in half and fit each half to the fronts of the Legs. This will mount flush with the Body when done. For some unknown reason the Right Leg is not complete. I cut a length of tubing and glued it in place to match the Left Leg. I cut and fit a square piece of plastic to fit the gap, then glued it in with Zap-A-Gap-Green Label. Next I cut strips of plastic to close off the hollow Legs and make them solid. More Coming...

HERE WE GO!The Side Pods were a little too long so I cut some off the front with a Cut-Off Wheel. Changed my mind. I decided that to paint the Walker with Tamiya Silver Leaf instead of Tan. Here is how the top of the Leg fits up against the Side Pod. Here is the other side with the top of the Leg set in place. More Coming...

FANCY FEET!The bottoms of the AT-ST Feet are hollow, I wanted them to be solid. So I traced the shape of the Feet on Sheet Plastic "Corrugated Metal Siding". Then I cut them out. Here are the Corrugated Metal Soles, glued in place... I decided to add some Sharp Points to the Toes. I cut little squares then I cut them diagonally and glued the triangles in place. More Coming...

SHOCKING!!!I found these 16th Scale Cobra Shocks fit right here on the Legs. Just what they needed! I glued them in place with Zap-A-Gap, Green Label. These "Spiked Hubcaps" are parts from a Tank's Threads. They make Great Kneecaps! I think these Shocks are from a 25th scale car. They fit nicely on the Toes! Side Foot View... More Coming...

GREEBLES!I'm adding some Greebles or Details, to the Legs. I found these parts in a Tank Kit. I filed a groove in each end so it would fit over the molded in cylinder shape. I added another one to the other Leg too. This is a 25th scale Car Muffler. I cut off the pipe and filed 2 grooves in the bottom so that the Muffler would fit over the molded in rod. The left one has been glued in place. This is the half of a Muffler and a length of half round Plastic Rod. I added them to each Leg. I found these Tanks in the 16th scale Cobra Kit. They were glued on the tops of the Legs as shown. More Coming...

GOING UP!I am going to use a 25th scale Lowrider Wheel for a Vertical Thruster. I traced a circle with the circle template. I started the hole with an X-acto Knife. I used a Reamer to make the hole larger. Then I used a Sanding Drum, by hand, to smooth it out a bit. Here is the Thruster in place. I'll put a black wash on it later... More Coming...

ARMS FOR USA WALKER!I decided to add Arms to USA Walker. I found some Great Arms in this Star Wars Probe Droid that I had collected. It was made back in 1996 so I went on Ebay and found a second Probe Droid. Here it is out of the container. I removed six screws and the five Arms fell right out. They are all different, so I got two Droids to make matched pairs. I also used these type of Arms on my Grabber Model. More Coming...

THE BIG ONE!I decided to give USA Walker three Arms. The first Arm will be the Big one located in the rear. First I marked the area for cutting. Next I cut out the marked area with an X-Acto Knife. Then I smoothed it out with Sanding Boards. This is the Big Arm, reminds me of a Mechanical Scorpion. More Coming...

MORE POWER!I decided to add more detail to the rear Arm Assembly. I found this half of a Rear End in a 25th scale Dragster Kit. It will be perfect for a Winch/Arm Control Unit for Walker. I cut off the shafts and glued it in place... Here it is after some Silver Paint was applied. Cables and/or Control Rods will be added later. More Coming...

WINGTIPS!!!USA Walker stance was a bit wobbly, I needed to do something. I found 2 sets of Wing Ends from a Monogram Dragster Kit. They fit in place perfectly on the backs of the feet so now I've got a little more stability. I added braces from the Star Wars Pod Racer to Beef them up. Here it is with a little paint... Rear Shoe View! More Coming...

WHITE GLUE & SEAMS!I started painting some Red Details to accent the Silver Body Color. Then I started filling some of the Seams and Gaps in the Body with Formula 560 White Glue. I put some White Glue on a tooth pick and carefully lay it into the Seams. Sometimes it takes a couple of coats, but it will fill most Gaps. Later I will paint over the dry White Glue and the Seams will blend right in. More Coming...

SORRY OBI-WAN!I was going to use the Obi-Wan Pilot for the Walker, but I thought he needed a Helmet, so I gave him a Haircut. Here he is with the Helmet Head. He still doesn't look right for the Walker... Found this driver in a 25th scale Formula-1 Car. With a little bit of cutting and bending, I got the new Pilot to fit in the cockpit Perfectly. I painted him with Vallejo White Paint, Great stuff! Here is a better photo of the Helmet Detail. More Coming...

ARMS!I cut four 1/4 inch lengths of plastic tubing. I cut the inside edge of the tubing to make a "Socket" for each arm. I glued the Arms in place with Zap-A-Gap. Notice how the Robot Arms mimic the Human Arms. I also reset the Pilots feet and legs so that they looked more Natural. The round Air Vents on the sides are old Ford Hubcaps. The Satellite Dish is from the Moon Scope kit and other details came from the Star Wars Pod Racer Kit. Some of the details were painted with Vallejo Brass Paint. More Coming...
