Now to figure out what to do with it. This was an unresearched whim, I didn't realize these are little 1/32 kits. I wanted an armored truck, but I don't like the Fast Buck front clip. Still might pick one up unless there's other kits ?

That Aurora Butterfly catcher is a fairly hard kit to come by , and it looks fairly well built - It would make a good display piece just the way it sits .

modelbuff pm sent for trade.
The Butterfly sits in the freezer right now, was going to do a tear down rebuild on it, but I guess decals are none existent ? Should I just clean it up ? How do I remove the sloppy paint lines if I do that without stripping the whole thing ?

Yeah, the decals for these are impossible to find, and if you do, they would probably be too old to use. None of these Aurora "hippy" kits in this series are easy to find, and the built ups are usually a mess. Now its hard to tell from the pictures, but it doesnt look too bad . Is the main body painted, or is that the original plastic ? If it is the plastic, I would either try a Q-tip with a light amount of thinner and work around the areas that have paint marks like around the roof lights. other than that , I would take model wax and polish around those areas. Sometimes the polish will remove the paint and it will bring a nice shine to the plastic. You will have to be careful around the decals . It will remove any yellowed decal glue from the edges, but it can remove the inks from the decals too.

I'm not holding it in my hand, but I think it's the original plastic, except for the yellow fenders and stuff. I see the box top shows a grey truck, trying to find a good view of the side of that box, looks yellow from what I can sort of see here.

It looks ok in the light green (to me anyway !) If it was mine I'd clean it up the best I could and do up the details on it.

Maybe yellow with green fenders ? I also wonder if it shows the Real Cool and Way Out differences ?

If you are going to hang out here, don't be afraid of the saw. Since you want an armored car, buy a Fast Buck and cut the front off and add a front end that you like. We have guys here that will cut up the most expensive of grail kits. By the way, The Butterfly Catcher is a cool catch.

As it sits now, there's a crack up top to fix, clean up some glue and strip the dash. Then paint starts on this little guy. I couldn't get the seats to clean up any better than this ? Used the professional strength easy off.

I have these decals, might be worthless. If they stick I can maybe do that way out version.

Wow, I dont think you could have found any decals as close to originals as those ! I would try a light coat of decals bonding spray over them, that could help if they are really old. As for the seats, the black paint does not come off very well with over cleaner ;I have no idea why, but it seems to be the only color that is tough to remove

Those are the actual decals from the original kit, came with the truck. I guess they gave you two sets, one set for Far Out and one set for Way Out.

LOL. I would try that bonding agent on at least one to start. The decals are aound 40 years old. I have had some really old decals work like new, but many just disintegrate as the old glue dries up on the sheets.

I'm debating scanning them and printing, but I don't have an Alps printer anymore for whites and I've never printed waterslide. Should have hung on to that.

I lost the radiator hose and that one rear light ! One minute they were there and the next they were gone from this planet ? I was a little upset ! Is this an age thing, stuff just disappearing ?

It happens to me all the time ; if you're work area is as messy as mine that would be my first guess...other than that it must be plastic loving gremlins !

My problem is to many projects at one time. I'll start with one thing, like now there's an rc buggy in pieces spread out on the dining table and soon another starts, add a lexan body soaking in dot3 on the counter. Then pull out boxes full of model kits and spread them out across the living room floor to "organize" and in comes an rc truck on the coffee table, top it off with this one in and out of the freezer and containers with dot3 and easy off..........
Eventually it will get back down to one and I'll start the whole thing over again.

A lot of the panels were glued crooked with large gaps, glue on windows, even the seats were glued in lop sided. It was a mess.
